i have always wanted an old sharps buffalo gun but any i have seen have been priced out of my league.i found a used pedersoli rolling block at a local gunshop that is in my price range and i was just wondering what anybody had to say about pedersoli rifles good or bad i know nothing about them.

I like mine, 45-70, but haven't shot it in several years. Good fit and finish, as I recall seemed quite accurate. If I recall this right, Remington used to sell these through their custom shop for about 2X the price. Mine had the open rear sight on the barrel, which I took off, and the target sights. At least a dozen inserts for the front one. The rear is weird, it can only fold forward. This means that to clean from the breech, you have to take the rear sight off the rifle. Also, if folded forward, the long, fine thread elevation screw bangs on the hammer spur. I put a short section of plastic tubing on the spur, but that is ugly, and you really should not have to do that. Good deep rifling for cast bullets, and enough leade for the heavy ones. My buddy is building a 500 yard range on his farm. I will take it the next time I go up to shoot.

Pedersoli makes decent rifles. Decent enough to win competitions. You can spend more money but you will be hard pressed to get more rifle. I have two Pedersoli Rolling Blocks, both built in the 70s and the one, 1/2 octagon, 26" barrel cut for the 45-70 easily holds 2-3 MOA out to 300 yards. I have used this rifle a lot more than the other (18" full octagon, also for the 45-70) and enjoy shooting it a lot. The rear sight needs to be the best you can afford. Many options but avoid the cheap ones.

The 18" rifle is slated to be rebarreled with a 26" round barrel and chmabered for the 50-70.

Other Pedersoli rifles are also good buys so if you happen upon a Sharps by them, grab it.

good to hear that they seem to be good quality.the rolling block i am looking at is a 45-70 with a long octogon barrel at least 26 inch maybe longer i didnt measure it. it seems to be in great shape no rust no scratches the bore is clean and shiney the only thing i can find wrong is that the elevated sight on the tang is missing.the bracket is on the tang with the pin but the part that flips up is gone but i think i should be able to locate one without to much trouble.i think i can buy it for 600 or maybe a little less.does that sound like a fair price
