The 9BP is just an awesome performer in 9mm. It has scores down the jacket that stop right above the brass. There is a +P version, but it is harder to find, and has a little better rep, but if you have studied up on 9mm SD ammo, then you know this is about as good as it gets for your plain old SD ammo. For the money you cannot beat it, and don't let the cost fool you. Just because it doesn't have a nickle case, have a 3 letter initial after the name, and doesn't have gold flake on the box doesn't mean it isn't good ammo.

I stock up on this ammo whenever I can because I have read so many good things about the 9BP and the 9BP +P. I have also used this ammo on 4 legged animals, and the wound channels and put down/clean kills are every bit as good if not better than ammo twice to three times the cost.

Disclaimer: I do not work for Cheaper than Dirt, Federal or any other wholesale/retail dealer of any ammunition. I am just trying to spread the word for people who choose to carry a 9mm.

Hishock is an old design. Talon and HST are much better but that price is very good if you need a strategic reserve.

Thanks for the tip. Right now, I carry plain-ole Remington-UMC 115-grain JHP in my PF9. For me, it's affordable for scads of practice, readily available, and functions 100 percent in my piece.
That price isn't too bad. It wouldn't rule out function-testing (200 rounds) in my gun like some of the "trendy, high-tech" stuff might for me.

There is also a +P+ version (9BPLE). Again, while it is old(er) technology, it is still a very viable and good option for those who carry 9mm.

I don't carry it, but I would not tell anyone not to carry it, either.

I generally use Gold Dot and HST 124gr +P loads for SD in my 9mm and I believe they are superior loads, but that is a very good price for a decent SD round. If I was a bit pinched for cash, I would not hesitate to use the 9BP ammo.

I was just stating that in general and in repeated tests these 9mm bullets along with the +P version are superb without breaking the bank.

If you have ever researched 9mm SD ammo then you know about these bullets, and if not, then I am trying to turn you onto them.

I also carry the 124 grain HST, and from personal experience I know that it will work on all critters. Take that however you wish to take that statement.
But I actually prefer the 9BP or 9BP+P over the HST or Hydro-Shock. I have zero experience with Gold Dots.
If you look these bullets are made to cause massive temporary trauma. And they do that very well.

You can take my title as an imperative or as a informative. That is up to you.

@Tex4426
I guess it isn't worth much being that the 9BP is a 9mm bullet, and you're shooting a .40 Cal. I say this with the most humble tone.

JustinJ,

You can find it cheaper, but these pics are good, and have the old box, which I like. Generally you find the 9BP in a blue box stating "Self Defense", and they come in a 25 pack around here.

Yes, the 9BPLE is the superior loading of this bullet.

@fatcat4620

The 9BP is an old design, but to make money they have to change the box every now and then. :)

The 9BPLE (+P+) is my round of choice in firearms that can handle a normal diet of them. This is a good proven round and $16 for a box of 50 always seemed like a good deal to me, so I stocked up a couple yrs ago. Its cheap enough that I didn't mind running 100 or so rounds through each handgun for function tests. 100rds of this = around $35. 100 rds of latest and greatest whiz bang rounds (hydra shok, PDX1 etc) would run you close to $100.

I have heard good things about Ranger +P+ 115gr in the past. Short of standard 124gr ball, which is pretty poor, most of your hollow point ammo will do well in defense.

Speer makes the gold dot in 9 mm as well...same bullet diff diameter..i dont use them...i just figured if the police use them they must be the best right...lol ...at least thats seams to be what everyone thinks..if the military or police use it.. then it must be the best...i use pdx1..kinda expensive but i dont care how much im spending when it comes to home or self defense stuff..if i like it and i think it works then i buy it...i load my mags every other shell as a fmj...judt so i have the best of both worlds

Not sure what difference the packaging makes but online i would bet it can be found for much cheaper as well.

One item of note is that for a short barreled 9mm as is popular for CC there are likely better performers such as Gold Dot's offering for such guns.

EB1 It is good to read someone comenting on ammo effectiveness based on use agianst flesh and blood animals. To me one hog equals a.hundred blocks of gelatin.

Thanks Eb1, for the heads up.

At 1080 fps (9mm) it is a bit weak for SD, looks like good plinking ammo.

Thanks Again
Jim

jim243,

It reallly isn't. Look at the design. The scores go deep and long, and the round will penetrate.
The +P+ LE version is much better, but for the crowd that want to practice with the ammo they carry. This is a good round.

Everyone should use what they feel comfortable with shooting. It is your life, your choice, your dollar. I thought that I would turn some people on to an oldie but goody, that is all.
