Percussion caps source

Went to Wal-Mart today, usually pick up a tin of CCI 11 caps each time I am in there. Shelf had some Pyrodex at 36 bucks a pound, no caps plus the modern cartridges shelf was stripped bare. I see a bad moon rising.

As of today Bass Pro percussion caps in stock. Both Remington and CCI brand. At least one brand of each of these: #10, 11, and wing musket.
Note: If you search for 'percussion caps' you will only find their CCI. Search for 'remington primers' to find their Remington caps.
They will ship CCI winged musket caps to the store or to your home.
#10 and #11 only to your home but not to the store right now.
Where they will ship them changes all the time, day by day.
I bought some different types by mail there last month.

Thanks for the alert, Darto! I have ordered some Remington #10s (5-8 days before they arrive at the store). Ironically, I just ordered a set of Track of the Wolf nipples optimized for the CCI #11, which only seems to be available in the magnum variety. I got the TotW cones because I thought CCIs would be easier to come by.

Oh: By the way, when ordering from Basspro/Cabela's, the picture that comes up for the Remingtons is one of a box of 209s, but you can select the #10s from thumbnails below the larger pic. Also, there's a dropdown on the right which allows selection. I was alarmed after receiving my order confirmation email, which showed the 209s, though the description was correct. I called and had a Customer Service person verify the SKU#.

Just on a whim I called a nearby gunshop. They said they had CCI #11s! I drove right over and bought 500. Got home and realized they are magnums, not standard. :(

Hey, WilTx, if you are still monitoring this thread... did BassPro charge you hazmat for ordering ship to store?
It used to be they didn't charge for that, but this last time I shipped caps to store they did charge hazmat fees.
hazmat was $14.00 fee which is cheaper than MIdway used to charge ($35).

Some of the guns wont take cci magnums and can cause chain fires because the caps stand too proud and hit the recoil sheild...some also just keep the gun from even cylcing. Cci 11s are ok..but prefer the Remington brand in any size. So id be careful with using the magnums...make sure there is space between the caps and the recoil sheild.

Price per tin is $8.99; perhaps they are rolling the hazmat fee into it. Just checked my confirmation email -- they charged tax only, no shipping.

Thanks for the advice, Kid. I intend to take the caps back tomorrow. I hope I was just not observant and took packages from the wrong hanger.

Does it make a difference if the Track of the Wolf cones are installed?

Track of the wolf nipples fit any remington cap size (the best caps in my opinion) and cci 11s. Depending on your gun will determine if the magnum caps will cause clearance issues. Some have the issues and others dont. By the way if you want your colts tuned to be super smooth and basically indestructible then lemme know as i work guns for a lot of members on the forum and from other customers who hears by word of mouth etc. It will give you a whole new experience and it will be so dependable with no cap jams etc.

Lucky enough to find this thread (thank you all contributors) and now have a supply of Remington #10s on the way for my new 1858 NMA (Uberti). I have CCI#10 which fit perfect on my 1851 navy (Pietta) but they are too tight for the NMA.

They want 8.99 plus 20.00 hazmat so I ordered 1000 of the tens and 500 of the elevens. That’s gonna keep me going for a little bit.

About how long will those last you brother? You seem to be a pretty active gunslinger! I have around 1000 remmy 10's left n would like to order more but that price is pretty steep

Took the magnum caps back today. There *were* standard #11s there, I had just picked up the wrong ones (they were a bit mixed on the hangers.) No problem with the exchange. This was at Gunmasters in Plano, for anyone in the Dallas area.

Mr.wiltx that is great news...a lot of stores wont allow exchanges or returns on primers and caps. Are you not able to find Remington brand in your area?

I haven't done a thorough search, but Remingtons have not been available at the big places like Academy, Cabela's, Scheel's, etc. CCI caps are available as long as you want #10s or #11 magnums. Only earlier this week were we alerted by Darto to their availability at Basspro.

I don't usually go into relatively small shops because of covid concerns, being a Senior American with ticker trouble. But this was a serious situation!

That will last about 6 months. 3 if I have my way!
That price is steep but I don’t really see it coming down anytime soon. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be really good gun salespeople but it’s going to hose us little people in the end. The ammunition market is jacked up as it was.

I know that the ammunition manufacturers are having a hard time keeping up demand due to primers but i really dont think that they should be. They should be able to churn out millions a day with their fancy machines. I just don't see how they cant keep up demand considering how fast they can make ammo. Ever seen the machines that churn out bullets? It spits out so many. I just find it hard to believe. Especially since they have multiple machines and more than one company makes ammo. I think they are just loving the demmand and making us think there is a shortage when in actuallity they are just controling the release of ammo to keep demand up. Im so glad i make my own powder and primers and am not dependant on those companies.

I don't believe that.
They could be selling multiple times volume they are today (at the same prices) if they could only manufacture it.
There are some serious raw material shortages and supply chain problems everywhere due to shutdowns and restrictions.

You may bw right and i may just be paraoid. But as much as they could sell so much now by keeping shelves stocked then theyd lose the advantage of people being scared that there is a shortage therefor customers wont panic buy and hoard and sales would drop. Its like diamonds. Not as rare to come by as companies want you to think...but they control how much gets released a year keeping demand and price very high. One reason people are buying so much now is because they think there wont be much anymore in the future. I just don't know anymore.

It rose, and it’s a full moon. :(

I found RWS 1075Plus at Midway a few weeks ago. 2500 for $124.00. They work on all my percussion guns except one. Yesterday I ordered 5000 more along with 10 pounds of powder (Grafs). My powder supply is now 20+ pounds with several thousand caps on hand. Lead is free. Not a forever supply but will get me through 21.
