if one were to cut a barrel down to say 12" then attach a suppressor and perm attach it, would you still have to pay the tax stamp for an SBR? or just for the suppressor?

Technically it won't be an SBR if total length is >16", but think about what would happen if you ever needed to clean the inside of the suppressor.

It's one stamp for the can as long as you are not under 16". Cleaning is no problem, again just make sure with the endcap off you are 16"+.

How do you remove the baffles for cleaning? Gotta get kinda dirty in there.

Specifically what information are you wanting? Most important is its only a 9mm AR. Its just 5 7075 aluminum K's and a 4130 blast baffel. There is a small chamber (you can see the plug weld in the side of the tube) that makes it easy to align the can with the bore.

To clean it I have a tool that drops down and pulls them out one by one but a bent wire would do the job.





This is pretty much the same concept except the "thimble" at the muzzle end is just washers on the can above welded to the barrel.




You could also make a monocore like this and just slide the cover off to clean. A lot faster for dirty .22's

You would only need the Form 1/4 for the suppressor. The key is that 'technically' you have to build the unit off of the receiver and only attach it after the suppressor is permanently mounted. Not hard at all with an AR, but a bit more involved with a bolt gun.

Another option is to do something like the Tactical Solutions SB-X barrel. http://www.tacticalsol.com/tshome/c...rifle-accessories/ruger-rifle-barrel-upgrades

In that case you have a sleeve or shroud that is permanently attached to the barrel with the suppressor fitting down inside. Not much different from permanently attaching a flash hider to bring a shorter barrel up to 16+".

Another user here, rjrivero, was experimenting with a similar concept. I don't know where the thread is at the moment, but there was a fairly lengthy dicussion here a couple of weeks/months ago.

Liberty is doing a shroud on an UZI barrel for me. Permanantly attached, it will fit over a can to keep the overall length down for those of us that are not allowed to have SBRs.

Not that big of a deal, to do it right you have to have the barrel in a lathe to recrown it anyway. A lathe with a large enough ID on the spindle are very uncommon gunsmith shops.
