I am sorry mister neighbor man that your bottled water got carried away in flood waters. I need to keep my freaking cat alive so your kids can't have any of my water.

I don’t think so…….. BAM!
And in doing so, are you not also "breaking the rules" that you are so enamored with?
You’re the enemy and can not be trusted to do the right thing.
Ah yes, the ultimate justification for tyranny and oppression of those who don't agree with the tyrant.

Why all the animosity to the group that has a moral code that they are willing accept responsibility for

Why is it coming right back, that we are somehow without morals or don't have a heart if we don't put a pet over another person?

Likewise, if my wife or children were left die because some guy on this board choose his dog over them, that "guy" had better hope I am really dead. Call that Internet bravado if you want to.

Why am I hostile to you guys with a code? Because you’re breaking the rules.
You’re tossing out one of the most fundamental threads that bind us together out of an immature loyalty code miss-applied to an animal.
I am bound together with family, friends, and perhaps people I admire. I would be more likely to save a child or a female stranger, but I would never abandon a friend, dog or otherwise. If you think that's twisted, so be it. I think there is something missing in your personality that would allow you to dump your own dog for a perfect stranger. I don't trust anyone who would do something like that. People without loyalties are dangerous, and ought to be avoided and/or guarded against. I'd trust a rabid dog before the likes of you, so I don't think I'd be getting in your boat anyway. That is, if I knew who I was dealing with.
In an emergency when the chips are down the rest of us had better know you will step up. Human beings live in a community; we are bound together with certain assumptions about behavior.
Apparently, loyalty to one's friend is not part of your assumptions, which makes you too dangerous to have around if civilization were compromised.
The real thing, the sad thing that is going unsaid, is that you guys with a code are stunningly selfish. Imagine letting another mans child die to save you the heart ache of a lost dog!
That's an odd way of putting it. Perhaps you are the selfish one for wishing only to save yourself from the heartache of losing your wife and kids. The point is, that would be a mischaracterization. Your actions would be directed by a desire to do what was right by those to whom you are loyal and who are loyal to you. That's what we are saying too.

It has always been thus. There are people in this world willing to kill another human being in order to force others to their will. This is why they make lamp posts and lengths of rope. Well, shedding light is the other reason for lamp posts, but you get the idea.

A dog can not be my best friend, neither can a carrot or a potato.
Wow! You really never learned the lessons of childhood, did you? Did you ever take pleasure in pulling the wings off of birds? Be honest, now. You're among friends.
