The great state of TEXAS
I have just read and signed the online petition:

"Open Carry of Handguns in Texas"

hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition
service, at:

http://www.PetitionOnline.com/texasoc/

I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think y'all might
agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and
consider signing it yourself.

Best wishes,

G. P. Gray

Why is the petition limited to Texas residents? Does no one ever travel to Texas, any more?

The spelling errors and factual errors tend to limit the credibility of the petition, but I think Governor Perry will be glad to overlook those. I don't know when the legislature again meets, but I'll be praying for Texas to take her rightful place alongside all the other states who allow their citizens to peacably carry their firearms in the open.

Best of luck.

Real Action from the TSRA

Petitions are wonderful things, but they don't file a bill, find sponsors, go to committee meetings, testify at hearings, et, et. All of that will have to be done to get this ball rolling.

I feel like I need to point out that every state open carry situation that currently exists is because it is a legacy holdover. Usually, open carry was never outlawed or addressed in any way, so its legal. Texas is going to require an actual law making it legal where it has been forbidden. That's a steep hill these days, when most freedoms are shrinking rapidly.

In Texas the LEO organizations are lining up for a push to prohibit loaded handguns in cars which just became legal LAST session. They don't like it and hope to abolish it this term. When they put on their uniforms and go park in their reserved spaces on Capitol Hill, they have a lot of clout.

And that is why, if OC happens, it's a ways away. We can't even get a Parking lot bill that should sail through. The above fight to keep weapons in cars is going to take up a lot of time this session. Effectively bleeding all other efforts.

That is what frustrates me- hog tying me and people like me who are no threat in the hopes that HomeyVatoDude will comply when he is the real threat. Do they think just since the law says that one can not have a loaded weapon in the car that H.V.D. is going to abide by that? When catapults are outlawed, only outlaws will have catapults!

The problems with our LEOs is that we're recruiting and hiring too damn many yankees from outside of Texas--including police chiefs and deputy chiefs.

I remember a time in which to be a Dallas or Fort Worth cop, you had to prove you'd been a Texas resident for at least the last five years.

Now we're getting in all these wild-eyed Green Beret wannabe storm-troopers in that can't get hired on back in Fishbite Falls, North Dakota--so they come to the big Texas cities and weasel their way in.

Any LE type that doesn't trust me or other law-abiding citizens can stick it in his/her ear. I have no respect nor any use for them.

As stated by a previous poster, "why is the petition open only to Texans?". Seems the experience of a neighboring state (New Mexico), with quite free and open carry (since when, 1912?), as well as car carry the same as your home, as a good example both of how it works, and continuity across state lines, would be worthwhile as petition signers. I realize out of staters can't vote there, but the example is what counts. Good luck, in any case. :)

That's why you gotta go on the offensive and push back with OC. You don't win fights by fighting defensive wars.

As for allowing out of staters to sign the petition, it is true that I don't vote in Texas, any longer, but I do own property in Texas, pay taxes in Texas, and travel to Texas and spend beaucoup bucks while I'm there. I would suggest that I have as much right as any resident to petition the Texas legislature to protect my rights and interests.

I respectfully request all Texas residents to sign this petition.

Our legislature meets in Jan 2009 for the next time. Open carry? Too may folks afraid that our streets will become a runway for blood.

Same thing they said about concealed carry and same thing said for every piece of pro gun legislation.

Narrow minded fools!!!

Oh yeah, that must be it...

Or it could be that you have a bunch of Southerners who simply don't believe in gun rights... Remember it was a "yankee" filing a lawsuit against DC that reaffirmed your constitutional right.

You youngins in Texas with free time, check it out, make up a flyer like the one attached here (you'll need MS Word to open it) and swap out Florida for Texas, and of course replace the Florida petition addy with the Texas one, add artwork, reword it if ya like, the important thing is getting it out there, making people aware, and getting them to sign. Go to malls, gun stores, shootin ranges and gun shows, but get the word out.

Wansta be really slick? Bring a laptop with internet access, so they can sign it on the spot!!! Oh yea!!!:)
