Should they stay...or should they go?

What calibers would you get rid off?
.22 long
.22 mag
9mm
.357 mag
10mm
.44 mag
.45 acp

20 gauge
12 gauge

.223
.243 win
.270 win
.270 weatherby
30-30
.300 win
8mm
45-70

While I really think it's up to you if you have a problem or not, I'll play.

If it was me, and assuming I had a problem, I would ditch everything except for the following:

.22 long
9mm
.357 mag
.45 acp

12 gauge

.223
.270 win
.270 weatherby
45-70

I personally keep my caliber choices limited for convenience, but it's just for convenience and to make it easy to stock ammo for all guns. I only have:

.22lr
.357 mag
.40 S&W
.223/5.56mm
12 gauge

and might add .308 and 10mm.

I'm the brother

OK

My brother - Federal Farmer - calls me today and says "everybody thinks you're an idiot - 3 pages of them on THR". And I'm like, "what do you mean?" :banghead:

My idea to him was that he has too many calibers to stockpile ammo and or reload for, so he should sell some of them so that he has money for more ammo, getting a reloading press etc. He just added the calibers .357 and 10mm last week and now is whining about a .338 WM and a .308 (even though I'm giving him a .308 next time I see him).

OK so he did give me a left-handed Mauser .375 H&H - o yeah - and he did help me get a deal on a Bushnell Elite 4200 for it. But my view is that it is repayment for the beatings he regularly submitted me to when I was a kid (9 years younger). :cuss:

Brother!

If he gave you an LHB Mauser, regardless of caliber, you have no gripes coming unless broken bones were involved.

I've spent decades assembling a leftist's battery & have a very good idea about the size of the favor that was done.

Federal, divorce him, adopt me!

runrabbitrun:

What would be a common round I may be able to 'obtain', from say UN troops?
(If the day comes blue helmets have invaded the good ole US.)
Or even from domestic troops who would be foolish enough
to obey and carry out unconstitutional orders from a government who is out of control.

I'm a realist.

You take away FREE lawful citizens RIGHTS to defend themselves against threats, both foreign and domestic.
You become victims of tyranny and/or criminals.

he claims he is a realist:rolleyes: The UN will someday have the power to invade the US:rolleyes: the US military is evil and will obey orders to carry out unconstitutional orders against its citizens:rolleyes:

you have to wonder what people's sense of reality is on here....sounds like you hang out on those extremists websites.

and you seem to have some insider info that says the US military could one day turn on its own citizens. Hey to all you vets who served, dont cha love this guy and his patriotism? He doesn't trust the military, the same ones who protect his freedoms:eek:

CB900F you have passed the first part of the find-a-brother-nota-winer test. As a fellow leftie you enjoy full benifits of my leftie collection. By the way I work in the optic's world and the discounts are significant! :D
Please let reply to go on to round two.

Arrrrrrrg!!!

Are you kidding me! :what: I'm the best brother in this world! :D

What an ungrateful wretch! :barf:

As for the one that mentioned broken bones - he was too smart for that. Only soft tissue beatings, mental scarring, and chattle slavery.

IMO you should just find more firearms with even more harder to find ammo. May not make sense but it makes you more mindfull of how much ammo you have when you're shooting. Plus it'll confuse your brother some more :D

Many calibers, no problem. I have 8 guns and only two of them are the same caliber. It only starts to get hairy when you reload, and find that you want different bullets for different purposes, and that different powders work best for those...and you realize you have 16 cans of gunpowder. Even then, that's just a basic setup, I'm sure many people have more than that :)

I hope everyone reading this understands that I really do, um think about, um and well he's ok no really I mean its just that.... :neener:
Brother your ok! Just remember as the older brother I know best! And I NEED a .308 and a .338 and several more 1911's. :D

Where is the .50 BMG?

Where is the .308 Win?

Where is the 7.62 Soviet?

Where is the 7.62x54mmR?

Why don't you have 5.7x28?

Sell the brother, then rectify your mistakes.

HOW many guns!?

If you aren't shooting up 1,000,000 rounds per year, you're a piker! But seriously, if YOU think that you have too many, sell some. There'll be lots of takers here. Go with your gut. There may (soon) be a time when we'll all wish we'd bought more when we could have.

I love that we all were saying what we were, and then "the brother" shows up...

with the handle ".375", no less! I had a damn good laugh!

In terms of calibers, i you live close to each other - or even if you don't - maybe the focus can/should be not on "consolidating" calibers individually, but jointly.

You can figure out, amongst the two of you, which calibers you'd like to focus on. This will allow costs to be shared, if you so desire.

You could change the subject back to what he has or needs and he will not have time to worry about what you already have or going to have in the near furture. Little brothers worry about the big brothers as the grow older.

My old battle ax...er, mother-in law once told me I had too many guns and that I didn't need any more. I told her she could decide how many guns I needed if I could decide how many purses and shoes she needed. I haven't heard a peep out of her in years.:neener:

If you are going to reload then get rid of:

10mm
.44 mag
.243 win

Assuming you have plenty of 8mm on hand. A lot of the others are interchangeable in one way or another or very common components. These three kind of stick out as not belonging to the others.

Yep, there is overlap. But I have said not all purchases are defended, just fun.
I would really like a zippy small bore, like a .257 weatherby?!
Many of you don't like the .22 mag sorry that one is my baby, and I will probably add a Savage in that caliber also.

Hey, brothers.

If one of you has guns chambered for calibers A, B, and C, and the other has only guns chambered for calibers D, E, and F, then when you go shooting together, each of you will have to bring and shoot your own ammo. If your guns are chambered for the same calibers, then your ammo is interchangeable.

If I had a brother, would I want his guns to shoot the same ammo as mine? Yes, if I thought it likely I could shoot up his ammo for free, or if he ran out of ammo and I could exchange him some of mine for something of greater value. No, if I thought he would end up shooting up my ammo for free.

Parker, brotherless but gotten used to it...

Federal;

Were you aware that the LH Browning T-bolt is now being shipped in .22 mag?

A lefty AR is nice for the ejection fer sure, fer sure. But, considering all factors, I wouldn't want one as my only .223.
