Should they stay...or should they go?

So you gave him a .375 H&H... and now he wants you to get rid of some more guns... I wonder where he wants them to go?:scrutiny::D

I'm assuming 22 long is 22lr and 8mm is 8x57. From here it looks like you've got a very well balanced collection. I wouldn't sell a thing. It would be interesting to gently probe your brother for which caliber he thinks you ought to get rid of. And then see what he thinks you should do with it. Maybe he's shopping.

I don't see a problem. Personally, I think you need a couple 22LR guns. At least one handgun and one rifle. Trade in the 22 long.

I am not big 10mm fan either, but its your assortment. If you like them, shoot them.

When purchasing firearms I like to get 'like' type weapons
to reduce the calibers needed in my ordinance inventory
and enhance the interchangeability of my ammo.

For instance, I have an SKS (7.62x39 ammo)...
If I was to purchase another rifle, I'd be looking for
another that would accept those type rounds.
Same for my 9 mm handgun...
My next handgun purchase would be another 9 mm.

Interchangeability of ammo in multiple platforms
can come in handy one would think.

Personally, I tend to have fewer calibers and more specimens of each, but that's just me. You're missing a 7mm, as a previous poster noted, but you've got .270, so that's pretty close.

Just curious: how many calibers does your brother have or recommend?

Parker

I must agree

You have several holes to fill. You need a 7 Mauser to go with the 8 Mauser. A 7mm-08 Rem and 7mm Rem Mag and without a doubt a .308 Win. and .30-06 are mandatory. I always thought the .30-06 was over-rated until I owned a couple. I plan to never be without one again.

Yes the .22 long ment .22 LR, sorry about that.

I found a used savage 110 in .338 win -- so maybe that one comes home.

But please all do not hate me but I cannot do 30-06, just my own little gun rebellion I guess.

Anyone think I need a good pellot gun?

you should pack up all those evil guns and send them to the ghost.:D

then collect beanies with your brosister.::evil:

actually i think you still need 410, 16, 28 , 10 guage shotguns
didnt see any thing in -06, 338, 375, 416, 458 ect.

you need many more cal's to be a complete manly man.:p

I would dump the 44 mag and possibly the 10mm although I just became a fan of that caliber with a new Glock20SF. The 357 and .45 can take care of the void left by the 10mm and to some extent the 44 mag. given the right loads.

Get rid of one of the 22. I consider 9mm a plinking caliber, I would get rid of that if you want to keep either the 10mm or 44 mag.

get rid of either the .223 or .243. Get rid of one of the .270s.

keep both shotgun gauges

since these guns are already paid off, another methodolgy you can use is to get rid of the guns that you shoot the least and go from there.

Another consideration for me is.
What would be a common round I may be able to 'obtain', from say UN troops?
(If the day comes blue helmets have invaded the good ole US.)
Or even from domestic troops who would be foolish enough
to obey and carry out unconstitutional orders from a government who is out of control.

Common rounds your enemy uses can be very useful.

Several of these calibers I have multiple copies of :
.22 lr
.45 acp
12 g

And I have been thinking about several new 1911's in .45, so maybe I need to photograph and post some sales.

Oh and I found another one 7.62x39, can't believe I forgot that one.
Thankyou all for the help; you are all correct ditch my brother :neener:, and buy some, sell some and trade some!

ok seriously dude...and you wonder why I can't get into a debate with you on any serious issue on here with a mentality like that.

sounds like you belong to one of those extremists forums, they talk about potential domestic takeovers by the UN and the US military

No 'DUDE', I'm a realist.

You take away FREE lawful citizens RIGHTS to defend themselves against threats, both foreign and domestic.
You become victims of tyranny and/or criminals.

And sorry, I don't know you, but have read some of your recent post.
So far it seems YOU can't get into a debate with anyone,
as you have yet to show anything substantive
to back up YOUR positions.

I won't even quantify any of your 'other'
ridiculous remarks at this time. :neener:

Rimfires (rifles & long guns)

22lr, 22wmr, 17m2, 17hmr

Handgun CF

9mm Luger
9mm Mak
38/357
45 ACP
45 Colt
454 Casull

Rifles CF

204 Ruger
223
30'06

Shotties

12 & 20ga

I have multiples of many above, but I clearly don't have enough. I need to add 10mm to handguns and several more rifle calibers.

I have several calibers that I have multiple guns for. Most notably 22LR.

I would bet 22LR is the most common duplicate.

I personally try to avoid buying intermediate calibers. Anything .223 isn't enough for, you can step right up to .308, .30-06 or 7.62x54R. Anything in between has absolutely no justifiable difference. Unless I see a very real gap in my capabilities, or have another very good reason for doing so, I won't add a caliber. Ideal rifle calibers are .22LR, .223, and any one of the above mentioned large calibers. Ideal pistol calibers are .22LR, .357, and .40 or .45.

+1 to don't get rid of any guns, get rid of the brother.

Seriously, if you absolutely had to (pay off debt, etc.), the only (semi)-redundant ones that I would be willing to get rid of would be the .270 Weatherby mag, and the .22 WMR. The .270 has each extreme covered by the .270 Win, and the .300 Win mag. The .22 WMR has each extreme covered by .22lr, and .223 Rem.

So those 2 cartridges do the work that one of the others does just as good. You'd just have to decide if (for the job at hand) you'd rather have a little more power, or a little less power.

Also depending on what guns the shotguns are, possibly redundant there as well. If ones a SD, and the other is sporting, you need'em both. If they're both SD or both sporting, they do the same thing, equally as well.

But first, I'd start with filling in the holes. First fill in the hole in your brother's head, then fill in the holes in your cartridge selection.

Here's the bottom line IMO:

Are you buying guns instead of food? Are you missing payments on bills to buy ammo? If the answers are no and no, do as you want.

If you don't reload:

10mm
.243 win
.270 weatherby

You don't "need" this for any real reason since all of your other loadings perform better at various tasks.

30-30

I assume you are looking to save money and focus your hobby instead of just listening to your bother.
