Alright I have a caliber problem (according to others!). My brother thinks I should reduce the choices.
What calibers would you get rid off?
.22 long
.22 mag
9mm
.357 mag
10mm
.44 mag
.45 acp

20 gauge
12 gauge

.223
.243 win
.270 win
.270 weatherby
30-30
.300 win
8mm
45-70

I enjoy deer hunting and target practice at many distances. Its all paid for, (no credit card debt) should anything go??

Get rid of the brother instead.

Sorry, just kidding, you knew someone was going to say it! :)

Are the 270s duplicating each other? If each has a purpose, to you, then keep 'em.

If you can feed 'em, why not keep 'em? Your bro is just jealous, his wife won't let him be a "gun nut".

If you're going to get rid of any, I'll gladly adopt them!

But rondog and armoredman seem to have answered your questions.

rondog do you know my brother? he's in CO also.

I feed them, scope them with expensive glass, and shoot them all at least once a year.

I just remembered I GAVE the brother a .375 H&H -- and he's still giving me flak! You are all right... good by to the brother!

You GAVE him a .375?!?! You're one hell of a brother.

Here's what I'd do:
Figure out which gun/caliber he thinks you should get rid of, then disagree, then buy another gun in that caliber just to spite him. :)

There are only two instances that stand out to me, on their face (and my opinion is that of a complete amateur, I'm just trying to provide food for thought):

.22 magnum - is there anything you're doing with this that can't be accomplished with either the 22lr on the one hand, or the .223 on the other?

10mm and 45 ACP - aren't these essentially accomplishing the same thing (hard-hitting self-defense), in relatively similar handgun platforms (at least, similary-sized autoloaders)?

I'd sell the .22 long, .22 mag, 10mm, .270 Weatherby and the .300 Win Mag only due to the cost and availability of the ammo(not that .300 Win Mag is hard to get. A .270 Win will do everything a 300 mag will do without the muzzle blast and noise.). That's just me.
Mind you, there's no rule that says you can't have whatever you want. If you don't want to 'reduce the choices', don't. You're a full grown, bull human. You get to make your own decisions.
My idiot brother doesn't get a say about what I own. Your's doesn't either. Mine knows less than nothing about firearms.

Well, I will not pretend to justify all gun decisions, but...

.22 mag is my most accurate rifle out to 75 yards - its a ruger 10/22, with a bunch of extra's.

And the 10mm (Dan Wesson 1911) is so new I have yet to shoot it! And I have a problem with 1911's they follow me home!

Federal;

I see several problems. As was mentioned, you need a dedicated .22 long rifle. Then there's the distinct lack of a: .257 Roberts, 6.5 X 55mm Swedish Mauser, EGAD NO .30-06!, and no .338 Winchester magnum. The handgun collection stops at that weak-kneed bed-wetter .44 magnum. There should be a rompin' stompin big bore in there. Something in the .454 Casull - .500 S&W magnum territory.

Only two shotguns?! Hmmmph! At a minimum we need a 12 gauge home defense, waterfowl, clays and/or trap, a 20 gauge upland bird gun, preferably a nice SXS or O/U, and a 20 pump. Although a Franchi 48 would do too.

And I'm just gettin' started.

As CB900F said - I think you need to add calibers! Heck, I load about as many calibers as you have listed, and have just as many that I don't load. You're missing:

30-06
8x57
7.62x25
7.62x54r
22 Hornet
no 7mm
etc.

Seriously - I've never felt right about selling a gun

having choices is a GOOD thing! would you want to only have an adjustable wrench to do your mechanical work? NO! :what: guns are tools, sometimes, you need a different tool to do a job over another. keep them, and feed them regularly! :D

How do you feel about it? ;)

As long as you don't mix up ammunition and put the wrong cartridges/shells in guns, what is the problem?

.22 long Long Rifle?
.22 mag
9mm
.357 mag
10mm
.44 mag
.45 acp

20 gauge
12 gauge

.223
.243 win
.270 win
.270 weatherby
30-30
.300 win
8mm
45-70

I find myself rather envious. :D

Exactly. 'Round here, unless you're over twenty calibers it's a shameful thing. We do give new members two years to get up to speed though......:D

As long as they all shoot, why would you get rid of one?

I have at some point regretted selling EVERY gun I have ever sold, so now I have a "no sell' policy.
