Okay, after reading about a few people who were really disappointed with their guns, for whatever reason, I wanted to get everyone's opinion on what they think is the WORST firearm out there! I'll accept manufacturer or if you can be specific the gun model!

Only 3 Rules for this:

1. Hi-Points are off limits because from what I've read on numerous boards Hi-Points seem to be universally bashed by everyone and it's just too easy.

2. Gun still has to be in production. If it was discontinued then it kinda makes it a moot point.

3. Post why! It doesn't have to be a defect or physically wrong ... just explain to this newbie why YOU think that gun deserves the P.O.S. lifetime achievement award!

Cannot wait to read everyone's comments on this one! READY? AIM! FIRE!!!

Rule #2 was:
2. Gun still has to be in production.

I agree it has to be the whole lot of Jennings / Lorcin / Davis / Jimenez saturday night specials made over the years. Every time they get in trouble, they rise up out of the ashes under another relative of Jennings name, with another brand name.

It's still the same pot metal pistol, that still doesn't work for long, if it works at all.

Any pistol by AMT . Not sure if they are still active . Just about all their models are unreliable .

Early Para Warthog .45. Couldn't keep springs in it, so bad that it wouldn't return to battery after a few boxes of standard-velocity ammo. It was beating itself to death, so I traded it.

I'd have traded it for anything that worked properly. Even Ravens lasted better.

Beretta Tomcat (non-INOX)

Why this gun is still in production baffles me. (And I'm a Beretta fan) This gun is known for the frame cracking, and a simple Google search will yield literally hundreds of threads of examples where these poorly designed guns broke. And if the frame didn't crack, there are also numerous reports of the trigger bar breaking. It's a shame, cause otherwise, it's a cool BUG with pop-up barrel and all.

+1 on the Tomcat. For a company with a long and storied history of fine firearms production, the Beretta folks have sure misfired with this clunker. Time and again, it's unreliable; and the more it goes to Beretta, the worse it becomes on its return, IMO. No thanks.

Jimenez Arms. I had a Beretta minx (.22 short, tip barrel) that was truly worthless, too. Jamamatic and lots of failures to fire. So, +1 on the Beretta pocket .22. I knew this one had problems, but got it for 100 bucks from a friend thinkin' I could fix it. I sold it to a dealer at a gun show for 135, so it was worth 35 bucks to me, in the end. :D

I had an AMT hardballer and after a hundred or so dollars, got it to feed ball reliably.. It was accurate enough, but sorta burned me on 1911s.

:fire: excuse me while i put on my flame suit before i start posting :fire:

the early production SigArms GSR 1911

it's the worst because it could have easily been the best production 1911 on the market.

was designed/spec'd with parts that were unable to maintain the correct specs for production...at times, it was so bad that custom smiths had a hard time correcting the problems

Beretta Tomcat in blue.

I owned one for exactly 3 days, it broke after 20 rounds.

Everyone warned me, but I still went out and purchased one. Mine didn't last long enough for the frame to crack (200 rounds), but apparently it also does that with great reliability.

Absolute nightmare of a gun, never, ever, buy one. Beretta should be ashamed.

If you're in need of a good laugh, here's a guy trying to sell a used one for $575, he also appears confused about the caliber, so that may explain the price.

Having not tried every handgun on the market I can't say which is the worst.

However out of the handguns I have owned over the years (several dozen at least) I would say the worst so far for me was the 2nd Gen S&W Sigma 40VE I bought back on '02. It just didn't feel right to me and I didn't like the trigger at all. I remember trading it in for a G22 and being much happier.

Call me a Highjacker, Troll, whatever you want. I call myself a very dissatisfied customer and would say the worst handgun on the market would definitly have Taurus inscribed on the frame, whatever hangun that may be.

Tek-9. Gangsta. Not sure if its still made, but XXXX (edit: serious correction required to preserve the name of a good existing company) is still around. I shot one in '92 (police friend confiscated from a drug dealer), it is the definition of "spray and pray".

BTW, Hi-Points are actually pretty decent guns with some people relying on as a car gun. Of course, I wouldn't trust it as a HD weapon.

OK, folk - let's try to keep this thread on The High Road. Sticking your tongue out at a cheap gun hardly seems sporting, no?

But maybe we can keep this thread open, if we use it for education and less so for idle entertainment via poking fun at others.

If you post a gun that qualifies as WORST EVAR, you have to quantify why it's the worst, and actually provide a solid rationale for your vote.

Pre-Kahr Auto Ordnance 1911 .45. Would not feed ball ammo, after hundreds of gunsmithing dollars later it still would not feed ball ammo. My first 1911, and should have been my last.

I got a TEC-9 once upon a time in a trade with a bunch of other stuff, and it was 100% reliable and would feed hollow points too :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

you know i actually have a Jennings 22 in the gun case that feeds MiniMags just fine. i have more faith in it than my Beretta M-21...at least the Jennings has an extractor

+1 on AMT; backup in .380 has a trigger pull that only a pipe fitter could love.

+1 on Davis... do I really have to elaborate on that?

And a big 'ol +1 on the tomcat; I started another thread recently asking advice; bad trigger, spring for the tip-up barrel flys out upon shooting... just a very un-beretta like beretta. Google is your friend if you are contemplating one of these should-have-beens.

YMMV.

Not sure if they are still being made, but I purchased a NIB Mauser HSC in 1984 and it would have a FTF with every magazine. Looked like quality in terms of fit and finish but did not function well.

I don't know what they're like now, but the first batch of TZ-75s in .40S&W were simply despicable.

A friend bought one. I don't think he ever got three consecutive shots from it without a failure to feed. The recoil spring felt like it came out of the suspension of an M4 Sherman. I would feel perfectly safe leaving that gun and a box of ammunition around small children. They could never have chambered a round.

He sent that piece of garbage back to the company. They sent him a replacement. I think he once did get three consecutive shots out of it. I looked inside the chamber and discovered that there a series of fine annular rings cut into the surface, no doubt intended to delay the opening of the action which was not properly tuned for the .40S&W cartridge.

He sent that wretched freak back, bought a Glock 22 and never looked back.

Don't know how to tell you, but the Tech-9 was not made by Kel-Tek. It was made by Intratec corp. and was a real piece of junk. Keltek on the other hand produces dependable firearms.

From personal experience, I would have to say the 3" Kimber CDP I owned. I spent a grand on a pistol that jammed like crazy, even after being "broken in" and sent back to Kimber for repair.

Taurus is not "the worst gun ever"..... not only because most Taurus guns are not as bad as many many other guns on the market, but also because Taurus is a MANUFACTURER, not a gun.... (I like the only Taurus I own.... an 85UL... but I know they have made some clunkers)
