I am looking for a Pietta 1851 Navy brass grip frame and trigger guard for a project gun I am working on. If anyone has one in the parts bin that they would part with please let me know.
I am not looking to get it for free and I know I can get them at VTI but I would like to find and older one. Tarnished or dull is fine. I did a really good job antiqueing the finish but the grip frame looks too new. Thanks for any leads.
Let me look down the basement tomorrow to see if I have one. It might be an ASM which will not fit. Meanwhile, you can use cold bluing and turn the grip frame black or take some BP fouling and soak the brass grip in a solution of it and get a brown tarnish. You can then polish out what you don't want.
A twenty minute soak with some oven cleaner well age that brass nicely. I polish the brass first then hit it with oven cleaner. This 51 has the trigger guard polished and the frame treated with oven cleaner.
