Afternoon all,
I do not think that a club exists for Starr revolvers so a quick post here. I wanted one of these DA oddities and finally found one affordable on Gunbroker. It arrived today as New Old stock with a great , like new box and all of the additional paperwork from Pietta and Dixie ( original seller ) The gun functions perfectly and will take some getting used to in many aspects. As the manual says, "It is nothing like a Colt or Remington type revolver." I am looking forward to shooting it this Spring when the snow melts in the mountains.
regards! New Old Stock is rare this many years later..jpg Completely excellent and rare as hens teeth now a days.jpg Original paperwork and info from Pietta and Dixie.jpg More useful paperwork.jpg Perfectly beautiful in its own way.jpg

Evenin'
Thanks, gentlemen! I am enjoying tightening screws and cleaning that thick, dried up grease off of the internals and well, everything. *chuckles* Next up is checking for burrs and snags on the action. There is hammer over travel when cocking it into SA mode and I am not even sure if that is part of normal operation or not. It does not exist in DA mode so I will do a little more research and clean up the action inside. It is a lot of fun to tinker with and well balanced in the hand. Saddlebag Preacher, oh yes, have a copy of that movie and enjoy it again periodically.
regards!

Gentlemen!
Thank you for the links. Part of the issue is my ham handedness. It's not all bad tho' I know not to cock it with the hammer from watching guys like Duelist and Cap n' Ball while I was waiting for it to arrive. Having big hands does help when you are cocking the LeMat one handed *chuckles*
regards all!

Good evening all, As the wind roars outside and rattles the window frames tonight, I have the Starr on my desktop keeping my keyboards company. I think that this gun falls into the Belt Revolver category. It feels much lighter than my Saddle revolvers, about the same as the 1860 Army. I'm casually looking around for a belt and holster for it, probably flapped. That's my evening, warm inside and safe from the storm winds, enjoying good company. Stay safe and warm, everyone.
regards all!

PainlessWolf,

I learned a long time ago, you might try a well made slim jim holster and carry it. I learned a long time ago why the old timers carried them butt forward. They ride much easier on the waist and if get on a horse, or 4 wheeler, or truck, it sets easier. Carrying one all day will be easy. I'm right handed but I have some for both sides, to cross draw with or to Calvary draw with. Both are about as fast.

Good morning. Thank you for the tips. I had wondered why the holster makers offered butt forward or backwards as an option. I use cross draw holsters for a couple of the larger revolvers and use a second, wider belt to carry them with if I am out plinking. *chuckles* I don't worry so much about getting them out quickly and into action anymore. In this day and age, the tin cans might already have the drop on me. ;o)
regards!

Good morning,
Thank you! the performance of the DA put a smile on my face. I suspected that this gun would run clean since the cylinder has the built in collar up front and no arbor rod to bind on. Very cool to see it run through it's paces..
regards!

Good morning again,
So 30 grains of 2F ( I believe I heard ) will put the velocity right around 45 Colt 'Cowboy' loads. Thanks for posting the figures, Doc! I normally use 3F powder, around 26 grains ( for the Lemat ) and 30 grains for the 1860 Army. So I will check the loading on this one and see how 30 grains and a wonderwad + roundball look.
regards!

Went to a little local show this weekend and one third of the BP revolvers looked at were Starr, yep one of the only three at the local VFW was a Starr.

It was an original Single Action and looked shootable. No, I do not recall the price. Kind of neat to find among all the crap though. Did not feel bad in the hand at all. Dealer was shocked I knew what it was.
