I have done a lot of stock restorations, and am looking into bedding one for the first time. There is a lot of info online about bedding, but not much on really good ways to correctly make pillars for the screws. So is there somewhere I can go to find information on correctly making and placing pillars?

A pillar's center to center location is determined by the location of the guard screw holes on your action.

As far as design there's not much to it. It's a piece of material with either some threads along the outside or grooves so that your bedding material has something to bite into.

Some are contoured to the bottom of the receiver and some are flat.

I make pillars that are a little different than most. They are CNC machined from stainless and feature a register that greatly aids in setting the height of the action in the stock. Normally this is exactly half of the action's diameter. Meaning half in the stock and half out.

I sell them as well. I'll post a couple photos later when I get down to the shop.

Cheers,

Chad
