Pistols for a southpaw?

Left friendliest guns in this southpaw's experience:

1) The 1911 with an ambi-safety.
2) The Springfield XD
3) The Beretta Model 92 or 8000 series.
4) The CZ 85B or Combat
5) The BHP with an ambi-safety.
6) The HK USP or P7
7) The Walther P88 or P99.
8) Any DAO pistol, especially with a reversible mag catch.
9) The Ruger Gp-100 and SP-101. (The push button cylinder releases make these the southpaw friendliest DA revolvers going.)

The Glocks would be southpaw friendlier if the mag catch were better designed. As it stands its a cutter and a little stiff. I also disagree with the SIG manual of arms for lefties that dictates slingshotting the slide under all circumstances.:barf:

Not all mag catches are made equal either. While some are not normally reversible, i.e. the 1911, BHP they are almost infinitely customizeable for button size, protrusion and spring tension. Others, though reversible, are out of reach without a grip shift. Still others, like the HK USP and the Walther P-99, have mag releases I simply disfavor, (along the triggerguard.)

Nevertheless, the good news is that there are many pistols, and at least one breed of revolvers, that are very lefty friendly.

For a Sig-like pistol, the TZ-99 pistols have a small following, and have duplicate controls on both sides. The Golan was the same gun.

The short lived Browning BDM was well set up for lefties.

I personally like the P99/USP mag release. It came from the P7M8 and provides for thumb or finger release with either hand. (The P7 is the ultimate ambi gun, all the controls are centerline.)

This Lefty

uses a Ruger P89. Very nice with the ambi-safety, and mag release. Also feeds eveything I can put in it. Also, I learned very young growing up in a lefty family how to release a slide with my trigger finger. With a little pratice it becomes like second nature. Now, I have trouble using my thumb when praticing with my right hand.
