Anyone here have a Ramline Exactor .22 cal pistol? Mines a really good shooter and very light, easy to carry outdoors. I've shot squirrel with it, it's that accurate. I like this thing, but it has a hammer spring/striker spring problem and suffers from occasional misfired. I'm going to play with ammo, see if I can find something it won't misfire so often on. Any .22 is subject to an occasional misfire, but not one or two out of a fifteen round magazine.

This little pistol, though, while physically large and easy to shoot, is only about 20 ounces, very light on the belt.

Never heard or seen of this. It's definitely not a pretty gun, but I'm sure it'd be handy in a farm truck or the like. About how much do these run?

I don't know if it's made anymore. I googled Ramline .22 or something and found one of the compact versions for 200 bucks on a gun auction site. I got this one a dozen or so years ago when they first came out after reading a test in Guns and Ammo or Shooting Times or somewhere. I think I gave around $160 for it, IIRC. I paid dealer for it. It's a very handy little gun. The barrel is encased in plastic, aluminum receiver, steel bolt, the rest is plastic. The big sales pitch with the receiver was that it was ergonomically shaped to fit the human hand and it does feel good in the hand. However, they changed the grip mold up to a more traditional shape after initial sales proved slow and it sold better, so I guess looks matter.

I see it as the perfect outdoor .22, accurate as a Ruger with a better trigger pull, but much lighter and easier to carry. They made a match version with adjustable sights, a compact version, several variations.

I think Ramline still makes stocks. I have a Ramline stock on my Savage 110 in 7 mag and like it a lot.

That doesn't surprise me. I've had extremely bad luck with every single RamLine product I have purchased over the years. I kept the last RamLine product (a synthetic Swedish Mauser Replacment stock that didn't come close to fitting properly) as a reminder to never buy anything made by RamLine again... It's too bad, they have some good ideas.

I'm going to take the gun to the range and do some more playing with it. I got to thinking today, it might occasionally not be going into full battery, stopping just shy. If so, the hammer wouldn't get a clear hit on the firing pin. It's designed that way, so if it's not in full battery, it won't fire. A little shove on the bolt would fix it after firing if that were the case and I'm thinking enough firing and it might break in. I don't think I've put more'n 500 rounds through it, don't shoot it that much. The thing functions so well in every other way, I want to figure this problem out if I can and get it to work.

This morning, I pulled the bullets on some .22 rounds and fired the priming compound with it. The dents in the cases are deep, so I don't think it's a problem with the hammer spring.

This thing is the absolute perfect backpacker's autoloading .22. It's super light, quite accurate, and large framed with a decent sight radius. Like I say, I've used it to hunt squirrels, made shots on the little devils out to 30-35 yards with it using the "iron" (actually plastic) sights. It might be ugly, but it's a sweet little pistol for the purpose. It's as accurate as my friend's MkII Ruger.

I'm sorta surprised at the number of folks that have never seen one, but then, it was a flash in the pan a dozen or so years ago. It made a big splash for its plastic construction at the time. It really feels well built and tight, in a plastic sort of way. :D The only thing you have to keep wiped down for reasons of corrosion is the bolt, bore of course. The externals aside from the bolt are all plastic or aluminum alloy.

Owww!!! MY EYES!!!!

(sorry, had to look anyway)

Actually it's kinda neat, I've never seen or heard of one.
Is there a liner or something in the barrel? It looks polymer from the outside.

Yeah, it's a steel barrel, thin, encased in plastic. The bolt is a big block of steel, but that's the only steel in it. You guys are giving me hope that this thing might have some collector value before I'm gone. ROFL!

I know what its problem is, now. I fired up a full 100 rounds of fairly new, couple of year old, CCI mini mag without a misfire. I tried to fire some fairly recently bought cheap Federal sold in the 550 round box at Wallyworld and it would misfire about 3 to a magazine. I fired the same ammo in my Rossi revolver without a hitch, then compared the indentations from the firing pins. The Rossi left a wide, round dent. The Ramline left a very narrow, straight dent. Deal is, the CCI is better primed, apparently, and goes off more sure fire. I have an occasional misfire in other .22s with that Federal stuff, so I reckon it's just inconsistent in the way it is primed.

The Ramline shoots a little high, but very accurately with the CCI mini mags. So, it's not the POS I thought it was. :D I now have a new affection for it. However, I still like my revolver better. It's just about as accurate and fires the cheap ammo more reliably.
