Well I AM and have been NFA for probably longer than most of you nay sayers have been breathing......NO, I DON 'T agree with every single thing the NRA does.......but get your heads out of your respective anal openings!......Less the NRA you'd have even common everyday pistols in the NFA...............Do I wish the NRA had fought the '34/'68/86...................YEAH, but I was around for at least TWO of those, plus the damn Clinton ban......and I am here to tell you that if had not the NRA been here it'd have been a lot, LOT worse..............Hells fire, I even did a LEO add in support for the FOPA while I had an M/16 transfer pending, that appeared nationally. I got no end of flack for that, even got editorialized against by name by the N.Y. Times for my position, and still I've gotta say, that without the NRA you'd still not be able to buy ammo interstate or pack your piece across State lines as you now can....

You NRA naysayers, really need to educate yourselves........................................you DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS LIKE, NOR DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE POLITICAL CLIMATE OF THE TIMES!

Damn to your hearts content, fellas, but less the fight the NRA put up you would be nearly as far down the tube as the Brits are!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lemme add just this.........what have ANY of you NAYSAYERS done...........have any of you put your livelihood on the line, I did!.........betcha the question'l go UNANSWERED...........but you'll gripe and down the only organization that's got any clout whatever..............you guys make me ill!

Thank God for folks like pro shooter!

So.. what are they doing for the NFA right now? Or handgunners right now?

Or anyone, really?

Yeah, we're not voting for McCain either. C+ rating for McCain - Barr got an A+. Yet for some reason, the NRA endorsed the C+ candidate....
Oh please......could it be that the C+ candidate actually has a slim chance of winning? Support Barr all you want, I would encourage it. But be smart enough to realize how many you are getting through to. Polls are not exact, but they show a good estimate of people's feelings on the candidates. Go ahead and cast your vote for Barr, after you are shown he's getting a whopping 1.2% of the vote. That'll teach those conservatives. Then take your ball and go home. STUPID NRA!

I love the 'doing nothing' straw approach. I really do.

Before I got sick (and unfortunately, it's an illness that has no cure), I fought on this issue locally most of the last decade. Getting the ranges here to actually not act on NFA use was hell on wheels. I wasn't successful on everything, the NRA-official fogeydom *did* ban night shooting while I was on the board at my primary range. The *only* reason that NFA stuff stayed kosher locally at all at our major NRA-affiliated range was one of the biggest business sponsors got a SOT. That's the ONLY reason.

NRA officials I've dealt with, local and otherwise, have been less than helpful on NFA issues. It's typically a 'why the hell would you want one of those' interactions, just like the experiences I had during the ban. NRA national may have been using AWB as a fund-raising plank, but again, local yahoos doing the fundraising and organizing and NRA representin' save one were against anyone with a 'high capacity' or 'evil' weapon whatsoever.

Should I add I'm a certified youth shooting instructor for handguns, and brough bonus NFA toys and EBR stuff for the kids to experience outside of scheduled lessons and competitions once the formal instruction period was over.

I'll ignore the letter writing (and letter publishing) to national papers. To my then-Senator and NRA board member Mr. Craig.

Yeah, that's right. Done absolutely nothing.

Because if you don't like the NRA's history, you must be a do-nothing fool.

Let the straw men continue, internet superheroes.

Just turned 18, just voted, just joined the NRA, going to buy at least one gun this month.

I am thinking NRA memberships as christmans prensents this year. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

I am a life member, I donate. I go to their shows. I've had friends and relatives join.
What did they do this election? I'm still looking, here in NC relatives in Ohio two key states and I didn't here of one commercial, call or radio add, Where did the money go? What state and what races.
I'll bet anyone here a cool million I'll be getting a call in the near future looking for money to fight Obama now.

I have heard NRA radio ads here in the St. Louis area...
apparently they are doing something. I DO WISH THEY WOULD DO MORE!!!

I don't believe the NRA actually has "my rights" in mind, seeing as how I don't hunt, I carry a handgun (both openly and concealed), my rifles are black, I like it when guns are nearly silent, and I like things that go bang more than once when you tell them to.

And yeah, I'm doing something. Don't worry about it. ;)

Well I just decided rather than a couple of year's as norm, I went for the life. I am not sure I have 10 years left, might be a bad investment after 11 years it will be free:D But it is not what they can do for you it is what they do for all of us.

Katrina think Katrina...
LA voted for McCain, had like a 20% spread, must know something. On the other side of America the CA's were similar for Obama...:what:

So first thing I did today was sent some money to the NRA :uhoh:

Dogrunner is 100% right.

You may not agree with the NRA on everything. I doubt that anyone does. But they are the premier firearms rights group. Their strength is a measure of OUR strength. EVERY firearm owner should be a member of the NRA, and of their state Rifle & Pistol Association.

Whether or not you are a member of other groups as well is your own decision. I'm involved with several.

So don't join, just send money! Seriously, drop them a 25 spot, any little bit helps.

You mean spread the wealth around, eh?

As if I have $25 for myself at the moment, let alone to 'donate'..

Join.

ANd then stay on top of them. Make sure you communicate your desires to them. The NRA is a lobbyist organization. If enough of its members make enough internal noise on any issue, then it gets moved to the appropriate location in the queue.

Tell them in writing. Tell them on the phone. Tell them by email.

They are our highest profile tool. We need to make sure that our numbers support its existence and that it supports our causes. You can't do that by sitting on the sidelines and refusing to play with them.

Oh by the gods...

Let's not start up the "what RKBA organization is best or did what" again.

That is in-fighting.

How's THAT been workin' out?

Here's an idea:

Figure out what fits you best and JOIN IT, get active, and keep it up.

Or do like me...

Join a BUNCH of 'em.

But for the love of all that is good, just do SOMETHING other than fight with those that should be united.
