For $130 would this be a good pocket gun?

Is the Pol-64 Polish P-64 9x18 dependable, comfortable or accurate?

Is this gun too cheap to carry?
Can you buy mags?

I wouldn't carry this gun alot, just when I don't feel like carrying a 229 around. Or I might keep it in my car, because it is hard to draw the 229 sitting with the way I carry.

The real question is "Can you pull the trigger DA?"

Because, unless you're really strong, you might not be able to do so. One of the worst DA trigger pulls in the universe.

The P-64s seem to be one of the more rotten products to come from Radom. Too bad the P-83 Vanads aren't all over the place (they got the DA trigger fixed).

Honestly, if you could actually get into the gun at $130, it might be worth it to you. Depends on your situation, I guess. I've looked at the P-64s, wanting to like them (I like Polish guns), but I've never bought one . . . and I've had opportunities to get them cheap.

I'd say go for a Makarov over the Pol-64.

If you want something smaller, you could always look at the P-32 or P3AT from Kel-Tec. Failing that, a PPK/S or similar (PP, PPK) might be worth looking at.

Agreed, either get a real Makarov or one of the Hungarian FEG Walther clones in 9x18. FEG Pa-63 and smc-918 are the most common. Any of those are better-made and more reliable than the Polish 64.

I had an SMC-380, and I'm pretty sure I wrote about it on this board. It was a good gun, if underpowered. The SMC 918 would certainly be a bit better.

The p64's are NOT FEG's........the little FEG's are first rate guns and will run and run and run.....While the triggers are the same on the two guns in this discussion thats where any similarities end.
The polish guns have had some problems with the decockers malfunctioning...the one I shot did have this problem.
Bummer too........SMC918's are just hard to find.
Shoot well.

The P-64s require the handstrength of a gorilla for DA and they are, in my experience, viscious kickers. The Poles (and they will be the first to admit it) really screwed-up on this one. they need to put the VIS 35 back into production.

Is the Pol-64 Polish P-64 double action only?

Can't I fix the trigger pull with a weaker spring?

1. No, it's DA/SA.

2. I don't mess with springs. If it were that easy, our Polish friends would have fixed them all instead of changing over to the P-83 Vanads.

Consider the Kel-Tec P-3AT (.380) which has a moderate 5lb trigger pull and has dropped in price to under $220 NIB blued, at least in Texas. They weigh only 10 oz loaded, which can be a problem for someone, accustom to a heavier pistol. I do recommend newbies use a pinkie extension during break-in.

I think the Polish dumped the P-64s because their cops didn't want anything to do with them.
Not a pistol that will go down in history as one of the best.
Even a Bulgarian Makarov would be a better choice than one of the P-64 dogs.
An East German or Russian Makarov would be my first pick of the 9X18 caliber pistols.
I chose a Kel-Tec P32 as my small and light pistol.
