Police response time

currupt, inefficient
Our mayor thinks the PD is his toy to play with
He also has tanked the budget
crime is skyrocketing. He wanted to ban gun shows in town and tried to call out the national guard one time

OP, glad to hear all you had to buy was a CCW holster (already made some progress on her, huh?) and that everything worked out OK.

Could be he was a guy with a cleft palate and a gland problem, who knows. At least now she's prepared to handle it. Remember to mention how long it took you to get there, and you DO have a duty to protect her..

Here in central Alabama, police response time is a joke; at least in my neck
of these old woods~! They may show up anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours,
after being called; depending on how busy they are. I once knew of a man
who was killed instantly during a high speed motorcycle crash, and his poor
soul had too lay in the bed of a pickup truck for 7 hours before the county
corner arrived~! :eek::(

Incident 1 - nice neighborhood) Vehicle broken into: Got told that they could do a report over the phone, and that my insurance would handle it.

Incident 2 - transitioning neighborhood) Drive by across the street from a rehab house - third floor was finished, and since it was the end of the day, I was sitting in a window watching the world go by when a car stopped out front, a fellow got out, stood in the middle of the road, and unloaded a 9mm at the house across the street, then slowly walked back to the car, which slowly drove off. I had 911 dialed before the guy finished shooting, because I had the cordless phone in my pocket. The police showed up about 20 minutes later, by which time I was sitting on the front steps (with a 12 gauge just inside the door), and wanted to give me grief for calling it in. They didn't even get out of the car, even when I started pointing out brass in the street. BTW, the first thing we did when we started the rehab was steel doors... That house cost $15K to start and is worth about $250K now...

Incident 3 - good neighborhood) Drunk/stoned chick can't figure out how to deal with a forked road, and totals her car and 3-4 others that were parked in The Bad Place To Be. She's okay, since I guess she just sorta rode it out... Cops showed up 20 minutes later.

Incident 4 - good neighborhood) Coed either took too much, or not enough, of something prescription. Does a naked track meet in the middle of the street, then her genius boyfriend got her some clothes, which also contained car keys. She gets in her vehicle, and tearasses up and down the street 4-5 times (with donuts in yards), and when the first po-po gets there (about 4 minutes after the first call - always say the magic words "naked woman" when calling...), she screeches, bails, and a neighbor and I clothesline her - we then got a little worried, but since she was by then trying to kill one of the cops, we just sorta faded... Within 6 minutes there were at least 3-4 cars, with more on the way. Took about three cops to contain her...

"Naked Woman" works.

When seconds matter, the police will be there in minutes

I borrowed that from somewhere else, but it makes a good point.

Here is a NY paper speaking of response times and averages being 8 minutes overall with the best area being a 6 minute average. Bank robbers who work based on timed assaults are reported to operate on 4-7 minute schedules (depending on the robbers and location).

Dallas ran 7-10 minutes for critical responses back in 2004. http://www.dallasnews.com/s/dws/spe/2004/dallas/crime2.html

Houston felt that for their most critical calls, they want a response time of 5 minutes or less. http://www.click2houston.com/news/4512431/detail.html They found that they were not making that goal in 1/3 of their neighborhoods. By comparison, Houston seemed to be doing very well compared to Dallas or NY, but in their poor response areas, they were just as bad.

Although the call was to the non-emergency number, I felt it deserved a priority response considering the guy

I do not understand why you would expect the police to think it's an emergency if you didn't.
And the call waiting is a great idea. Or a cell phone.

Where I live, the county Sheriff is at a minimum 15 minutes away, I'm 16 miles from the Sheriff's office, even driving 80 mph, which is impossible on these mountain roads, 15 minutes, minimum. If I had a home invasion or some other life threatening emergency, out here, its "shoot first and ask questions later".:D

Out where I live I call dispatch directly. With cell phones and 911 you can be in Lyon county and the call some how gets answered in Story county then they have to transfer you to the right county.
