I just came back from the High Caliber Gun & Knive Show in the

Houston G. R. Brown Convention Center, and all I can say is

wow!!! It was the first GS I went to where it was 80% guns and

knives and accessories. I guest it being on a holiday weekend all

the Beany Baby/Beef/Jerky/nazi T-shirt people are at home

nursing their hangovers. The prices were mostly fair (there were

still the ones that over prices everything 100% but they were in the

minority:p ). It was a good gunshow for serious gunpeople. Me

being short of funds (after Christmas after all) I brought a doggie

FN 1922, .32ACP that was giving me FTF blues and traded (trade +

$15) for a Polish P-64 (9mm Makarov) in VG to excellent condition.

Did not have enough on me for a box or two of ammo but this

should be remedied Monday (the range is closed Monday

however). Can not wait to put it through its paces.

Glad to hear about a good non-junkie gun show for once.

I bought a P64 a couple months ago. I refinished it, and in the process broke the trigger return spring. Parts are basically non-existant for this gun, so I wound up having to make a new spring out of some spring steel wire. Not a fun experience. Do yourself a favor; DO NOT detail strip this gun unless you're a gunsmith (or the equivalent thereof).

That being said, once I swapped out the hammer spring for a lighter weight Walther PP spring, it's an interesting gun. The stock hammer spring was so stout I actually couldn't fire the gun double action. Admittedly, it can be done, but with some prior wrist problems, I was up a creek. The single action trigger is spooky on this gun. You basically don't feel any resistance when you fire it SA. I'm completely confident in the gun, though. It shoots where I point it, and has been 100% reliable with Wolf FMJ. It's my "slip in the coat pocket when I'm too lazy to strap on one of the bigger guns" carry piece.

I hope you enjoy it! Good shooting, and be safe!

Hmmm..... so what range would this be? wondered b/c i thought the one i use (greenwood near brazoria) was the only one that did this.

Went to the same show back on Saturday, didn't find what i WANTED (complete set of M16A1 furniture+the buffer assembly) but was able to get a few more parts that i needed, ie an AR buffer assembly, and a few mags to add to the retro-AR15 build i'm doing for my wife.

to be honest not much jumped out at me, except the fact that i hope like H@## that the High Caliber shows through the rest of the year are not that small!! the show in Pasadena the weekend before christmas was almost as big.
maybe i'm just spoiled but since I moved to texas i have not been impressed with the size of the shows, i remember the GunShows from less than 10 years ago in NC and Memphis that took up space equivilent to two of the exhibit halls at Brown

Uh...Hope this isn't too disappointing, but you know that the Polish P-64's are only $139 in New Unissued condition from SOG and Classic Arms, right?

I think the FN was worth a good bit more than that...?

Also keep in mind that the P64 is NOT a "real Makarov"...I hear a lot of people talking about issues with those, so it might be an okay range fun gun, but I'd not trust it for CCW or anything like that. You'll probably want to pick up another for spare parts when/if stuff breaks.

I thought the Houston Show was pretty good
They may not be as big in Houston but there is 2-3 time a month
I picked up a Bul. Makarov for $165.00 out the door
Not the best finish but I've been looking for one to send to Tripp
It's heading there on Tuesday

That $139 price is BEFORE S&H and a little thing called FFL transfer fee. Yes I know it isn't a "real Makarov" but it is smaller than a Mak (PPK sized and no they, the Poles, insist it is not a copy of a PPK although a few parts can be interchanged with a PP). The FN was a "beater" I paid $140 for at a reputable gunshop that buys and sells collections for a living. It had FTF probs and was a range queen.

BTW Detritus I shoot at Baileys Almeda @ Bluebonnet and thanks kirkdcl I just was on the site.

wow, holy old thread batman.

I have a P-64 and once i swapped the springs out it is an incredible shooter. I shoot it better than my 22/45.

These are great little guns. No they're not a "real" Makarov. They're actually more of a PPK copy than anything else. But these guns are little Sherman tanks! Here's some pictures of mine.

Tons of parts did not come with these pistols as they did with the Makarov, so buyer be ware. The supply of parts and pistols is almost gone. The Polish pistol does not compare to the Makarov in any way, but that of the round it fires. orchidhunter

That is true, there is a very limited supply of parts for these pistols. There are no companies to my knowledge that make spare parts for the pistol. I know that many people buy two so that they'll have one for parts if the need be. I've heard of very cases where people have had to throw away their guns because they couldn't find parts for them. Take good care of this little gun and it will treat you right. It's just as tough and reliable as the real Makarov.
