I have a couple folks from the office out a couple of times a year to shoot. Most of my co-workers are retired/ex-Army, so there’s not a lot of “new” shooters. On the 5th I’m having our operations section out to shoot and BBQ for our “social” function, mix of mil/DAC. I also have my boys friends shoot when they do sleep overs etc.

It’s the best part of having your own range.

Chuck

I have brought several people to the range this past year.
The latest is my new apprentice (HVAC).
Since I brought him a few weeks ago he has mentioned that he may actually jump through all the hoops required to get his restricted license here in Canada.

Same here. I am supposed to teach my hippy brother in law to shoot but without .22... He is pretty liberal but also an old punker so he isn't a complete pansy, hahaha. He wants to work his way up to a home D gun.

while im in new zealand for a few months i picked up a nice BSA in 270 and took out some scandinavians and a californian who had never fired a gun or even held one before. theya ll loved it and told me they are no longer afraid of guns as long as they have no reason to fear the person using them

My father brought my little brother down from Canada last month, and we took him shooting. It was really cool because he got to shoot my handgun, which are obviously pretty rare in Canada. He had an absolute blast and went into the new school year telling all his buddies about it. He got a huge kick out if the exploding zombie target they guy next to us gave him.

Also took my brothers fiancée. He still hasn't gone with me with his pre med classes taking up all his time. She also had a ton of fun, and I thought I'd have to pry my mossy 500 from her hands when we left.

Love taking new shooters out. Very fun and extremely rewarding.

Hi all, this is my first post.
Not a new shooter, I've had my LTCF for 40 yrs now. I have been taking my dtrs. to the range for years, mostly shooting 22LR.
My one dtr. turned 23 in Dec. and 3 days later said, daddy let's go to LGS I'm going to get my first gun. She bought a Bersa Thunder 380. In Jan. she went and got her own LTCF.
Her 3rd trip to the range this summer, she put 34 Fed 95gr FMJ in the 10/X rings on a bad guy target at 7 yds. (Made me proud.)
My younger dtr. took her and boy friend out in July. (He has shot rifles and hunts, but never fired a pistol.) He loved shooting the Ruger SR22. Can't wait to go out again.
Took my neighbor out this summer as well. She has her LTCF and purchased a XDs I think in 45ACP it only holds 5 rds. in the mag. She did a great job, listened to my instructions and was shooting like a pro after 2 hrs.
Love taking new people out to the range. Always a fun time had by all.
As always, good luck and stay safe.

Yes, just the day before yesterday as a matter of fact. One of the project managers at work and his wife (we all took the day off) came up to our place and we had a little safety and technique session on shooting handguns.

I had about a dozen handguns on a table (single actions, double actions and semi-autos) from .22 to 454 Casull and I asked them to choose which ones they wanted to shoot. We grabbed five guns (including the 454) headed to the range and spent a wonderful afternoon punching holes in targets. They both loved it and have a short list of handguns they are shopping for right now.

It's all good.

So far 4 people. A married couple who decided they ended to get a ccw permit. They share an m&P 9mm.

My fiancé. While not a new shooter, she hadn't shot in 20 years almost and had never shot a pistol. Now she's in love.

My fiance's son. Last weekend was his first time and he was shooting my marlin 15y. Hit his first bullseye at 8 1/2 years old.

At some point my mom wants me to take her out, which is crazy. She's been so scared of them her whole life. Now with all the gun control bs she thinks it might be fun to shoot and has gone from anti gun to pro gun. I think Obama has back fired.

I took 2 work colleagues (husband and wife) for their first time on Friday. They are hooked! With them 2 it's probably 6 or 7 for the year. I lose track. At my main job, a community college, it's common to find first timers, at my other job - AF Reserves there are not as many newbies.

That's one of my main reasons to go to the range.

I make it a point to help the Boy Scouts get range time.

My grandson, age 8, recently got his first trip to the range.

More recently, I took a guest from Malta and two other friends from work. The fellow from Malta had a tremendous time, since there was extremely little opportunity for him to shoot at home.

My sister was always deathly afraid of guns, but she's a professional counselor and has to deal with strange people, and she decided to overcome fear and learn to shoot. I took her to the range and started her out on a 22 revolver. Then she tried a 38 snubby, and an XD45. Next up was my P238. She almost took that away from me on the way home.

My favorite of all time was the wife of a friend. She was a former school principal, and would just barely allow her husband to have guns in the house. One trip to the range, and she was hooked. She's now an avid shooter, and my friend can have all the guns he wants.

I taught a friend and his son the NRA Basic Pistol class. Then we went shooting, shot a Ruger Standard, a few Glocks and a Tec-9M.

New Shooters

Take my grandkids as they become old enough.

Have taken colleagues and an occassional resident or fellow who shows interest.

I almost enjoy watching others shoot more than my own shooting.;)

Glade to no

I would say in this part of Alabama 90+% of men hunt. Maybe deer, maybe turkey, maybe duck, but almost every male over the age of 10 I know hunts something. I don't know many women, I know my wife real well and that's enough,:scrutiny: but probably half of the women I do know already carry. The other half is generally educated by a husband that would be hunting me if I asked his wife to go shooting. :what:

So no, I haven't met a newbie to take. I hope that doesn't change.

I took at least three women shooting in the past year that had never even held a firearm in their lives. I live in rural Alabama and am appalled at the number of people, usually women, that have never been around firearms.

Hello I started my 8 year old grandson shooting 2 years ago he started shooting up all my 22's and one of my hunting buddies put him onto .223 and now that is all he talks about. I am building him a 7.65x53 Argentine hope do have it done by X-mas. He loves to quail & dove hunt and he can't wait to go deer hunting with me. Have fun and be safe scooter001

Good morning
Took my grand daughter and a auto repairman out shooting (at diferent times) last time we were up north in the US of A.
Mike in Peru

I took my cousin (teenage girl) who had never fired a gun before. Started her off on a Marlin 60 and then she shot the .38 Special. She had a blast and within 15 minutes was outshooting her brother.

Absolutely! I don't think my nephew would have been nearly into guns had I not influenced him and taken him to the range any number of times. He's now an avid gun nut! We went out last weekend with his current girlfriend. I had my .223 bolt, and Enfield. The guys next to us were shooting an '06 and a cut-off Mosin! We had good ear protection (thank God - that Mosin!) She shot a bit with the .223 and just loved the whole experience (she'd never shot a gun before!) Very nice day, thank you.

Took a friends 25 year old son out for a clay bird session. He had never shot a shotgun. After a lesson in how to mount the gun properly and a little advise on leading and follow through, he broke the first bird out of the trap. He put 75 rounds thru 3 different guns and broke maybe 50%. Had a ball. Never could get him to lean into the gun though. Maybe next time.

At 1st, I didn't think I had anything to contribute to this thread until I realized I recommended some kind of shotgun for SD to my next door neighbor last winter and actually took one of my revolvers and and my Dad's old model 12 out with him to shoot, then went with him to Sportsman's Whorehouse (did I spell that right?) to buy a shotgun within his self imposed budget. I have a suitcase of 1960-70's era lead shot, magnum goose hunting loads of no use to me, I let him and his cousin shoot it up. They both came home with bruised shoulders but went out to shoot trap loads the next weekend on their own. Hah!

Then, this July, my niece's husband and their two kids (about 12 and 15) stopped by on the way back from her granddad's 100th Birthday and asked to shoot a couple of my pistols. I'd recommended a Ruger 10-22 for a BD present from her to her husband a few years ago.

I started them with a Ruger Bearcat single loaded, then let them load the cylinder. From there to a S&W model 66 the same way. Finally, my 45ACP, loaded from the breech and then from the magazine. Their Dad could hardly wait for his turn.

I had a great time and didn't shoot a round.
