Good question, FPrice, and one which goes beyond this situation.
Not to be facetious, but most folks expect to make it from their bedroom to their kitchen or living room without having to be armed, or maybe even out on the deck or in the yard
Now me, I choose to carry a sidearm from get-up to lie-down, just because I am the protective sort and since I work from home right now there is no reason I can't. But Mom and the twins haven't felt that need, besides they have me and the dogs around. Since they turned 18, I've been trying to get the twins to carry when they go for a walk, but they still have to make the decision themselves.
The wierd thing is that right before this I was starting to wonder if I was a little too paranoid, maybe I just needed to have a gun handy and didn't need to carry on my person all the time around the house and yard.
Anyway, you are right in that if I expect or suspect a confrontation, that I will have a rifle in hand, as well as the sidearm. But where do you draw the line? Geeez, is it safe to walk to the mailbox without the AK ...? How many spare mags do I carry?

Actually, I think I'm going to see if I can get a local number for the US Marshalls, and find out what the heck is going on with the case. Seems like they owe us some explanation while this guy is out on bond ...?
The girls can't vary their schedule too much, because of school.
I have been roaming around with my rifle, just on general principles ... walking the ridges on both sides of the house. Varmit hunting, you know
It looks like there has been no one at the neighbor's house for several days now. My (cynical and suspicious) theory is that he/they were leaving the area for a while and trying to nab someone on their way out.
