South PA, and a bit West of center!
Guys, I am giving some consideration to trying to fix a shoot - tho right now this is very tentative. I just want some feedback.

My hope is that I can have part of the ranges at the Hollidaysburg Sportsman's Club .... and thinking of May 28 - Saturday. This is a great place to shoot but also a busy club with a very full schedule. The range area I can consider is primarily pistol (use for PPC ... 50 yards max) - and so this would to all intents be a handgun only shoot (and .22 rifle or pistol cal carbine). The rifle range proper would be in use by other members... so high power won't be practicable.

I would have to rent that portion in order to cover the useage by visiting non members and depending on uptake - I'd estimate we would all need to chip in about $10.

If things come together then I will of course post directions but in meantime, feel free to go to the club's website ... it is not far out BTW from Altoona.

Come back please with thoughts and say whether you would be liking to come and how feasable that would be.

.

Dave, Mike - thx - still of course mega tentative but - will hope if some more interest we might be able to run it. I will of course give max notice if we can go ahead. Be great to get together again and hopefully a good few others.

I'll see how things look by end of this month before making any decision.

Chris - Maybe we'll get to fix another Glock?

You've got my interest...

Also, if you're interested in renting a full facility for a day I can get you in touch with some people regarding possible full facility rental. If you need contact information send me a PM.

As a side note: I haven't lived or shot in Blair county in almost 5 years, (Moved west to "the city.") but I'm sure the same people that ran the place(s) when I was a member still run them today. :)

Nuts .... sounds like you're over in Pitt. Well - looks like I can get the range section I want, and as long as folks can handle just handgun/carbine then we should be good. It's a good venue, where I am a member.

So I am up to speed on what you may have in mind then do drop me a PM with brief details - just so as I know. Nice to survey all options.

Chris , if the participation level doesn't warrant renting the Holidaysburg range I can most likely secure my local range , either the one at the clubhouse (100yd max rifles ok) or the smaller but very loooong remote range (500 yd max ~ 4 position, almost anything ok ~ they'd prolly frown on RPG's), keep me up on tenative dates and expected turnout.

Oh , and count me in wherever it is !! :D

I'd be roping you in Ray - regardless :) :neener:

That is a good thought - hadn't considered it... assuming it'd work in with that club's schedule etc. We'll chat on that at next shoot.

I am not myself too worried about not covering high power rifle - handguns and carbines will be well adequate I should imagine. But, good to have alternatives to consider, that's for sure. I have mooted fourth Saturday (28) in May for now because that looks feasable for Hollidaysburg range - plus Corey can be there.

However - we'll see what develops ... plenty of time for now.

Later

Spring break begins offically March 28.
My last class for that week is Thursday night the 25th. :D

I have run that route straight thru... many times. About 16hrs...

Just need Internet connection to check on studies and stuff ...

And I am legal to CCW in PA.

"Honest officer - I really have been adopted as an Uncle again...Camryn wants me to visit."

Steve, if that could work out - be just great. :)

Doubt Camryn would be there quite yet tho - unless, hmmm, thinks, maybe the NAA mini with .22lr cyl - firing shorts - hmmmm .. be good tho if she could meet her ''Uncle from AR''. Darn - she is a month old already!

Watch this space dude - and we'll see how things look by end of this month. Be nice then if we could make a firm date well ahead of time.

"Pet Adoption" hahaha ... another excuse to add to my list! :p

Now the 220 ... that has to be on my want list - but whether I can ever run to one I am not sure. Profligacy has taken its toll :D

Like you - I do not feel in least disadvantaged by 9mm ... certainly not with 17 on board!

Chris,

Well eveyone really. Here is the deal. I am in College and will have to keep up with studies. Lot of my stuff in on-line. I do take a Laptop when I travel, and my ISP is such, I get the local # local number for them - I'm good to go.

I have some attenitive business that week that is still up in air.

Now I have talked about heading up north to see Chris anyway. I leave AR, go through TN, KY Ohio normally. I need to consider going 'around" Ohio. Some folks have offered and we have talked about me stopping by when in their area.

Just a quick trip ,seat of the pants on a shoestring budget. Guns don't have to be the focus or center of visit. The people are the most important aspect to me.

NO promises, just something that Chris and some other generous folks and I have kicked around.

:)

If the schedules work out, mebbe I can get up there as well. If so, I'll try to drag Mr. Irwin along with me.

Chris

<bump>

I don't know yet! Stuff keeps coming up. I may choose to head to Tulsa which is closer, Larry will be there as will others.

I may have to drive to Waco, then Houston. Then again I may have to head to TN. Everything may blow up at the last minute and I not go anywhere.

They make wings for Chevy Trucks? :p

Steve, you got me in trouble with this 28ga so you better come so I can meet you face to face. That way I can tell the wife who to go after with the rolling pin  . Ok so she really doesn't have a rolling pin but she can be creative when it comes to finding something to whack you with.

I'm gonna bump this another time or two.

Looks like maybe not that big of an uptake ... and thus not practicable to use the main club I had in mind. Probably uneconomic.

So perhaps we could link up with caseydog to use a range at Portage ... nice place if a tad rough to get to (rough track). Let me know anyone so that maybe by end of this month or soon after we could make some sorta plan.

Still fishing!

Beren - ''Definite maybe'' LOL - which is it?? :p Ok - sounds good.

Chip - sounds good too. Well - I think even if we are not huge on numbers - should be possible to get a nice group together. More I think about it, more I am inclined to think (subject to checking with caseydog) that we could well do best using the Portage long range.

Quite a few benches and we can ''stretch'' out to IIRC 300 yds or more, so HP rifle would be OK.

I'll try and make a decision in a week or two - and then post on that. There will need to be info on directions - so that folks can find us. As a prelim info - the range is off PA R164 ... just to West of Portage, if you wanna peek at a map. Portage is itself approx to North of Johnstown PA.

Watch this space - and the forum, for when I post next stage info.
