Give me ideas and info. I am short on sleep an not feeling very creative. Let's figure out the captions and concepts together, then I'll produce the visuals.

Oleg,

SpeedAKL posted on the other thread this:

Hey everyone. I am currently a sophmore attending Virginia Tech.

I was not on campus when this started to happen and am not planning on going up there until things settle down a bit. Needless to say, I am shocked, horrified, and quite frankly sick to the stomach. This is AFAIK the worst school shooting in US history. I have been able to contact most of my friends but am still awaiting more details.

Right now I'm just confused as to how this could have happened. 32 dead + 29 wounded = 61 people, 59 of those in one location. Even with an automatic weapon, the shooter would have had to reload at least once. With a semiauto pistol, make that at least 2-3 times. With a rifle or shotgun? Go figure And this is all assuming one bullet per person and no missing. I just can't figure out how one shooter could have pulled this off.

What I fear is that this will cause an anti-gun upsurge here in VA and around the country. This is horrific, but I am worried that fear will overcome reason. If anything, people living off campus with a CCP should be allowed to carry on campus. If a BG shows up, as has happened twice this year now, we are TOTALLY defenseless!

I think that may be a good place to start.

Its your choice. Its your RIGHT!

Maybe paraphrase something I've heard on THR a few times, like "outlaw guns on campus and only outlaws will have guns", perhaps referencing HB 1572 that would have allowed CCW on campus.

Or "Against the deranged, only force will stop force. Why make it easy for them at schools?"

One of your posters had a lady on the floor, phone in hand. I reckon that you could do something like that, but have the focus be a cell phone... a cell phone can show what number's been dialed, and how long the call has been going on - in this case, have 911 dialed and the timer around two hours. You could have somebody in a police or SWAT-like uniform just arriving on the scene. A caption to the effect that 911 won't always save you.

Use the Presidents of VT's own words:
"Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.""

And say something to the effect of, because concealed carry was prohibited on campus the killer was allowed to roam free killing at will for over 3 hours.

Not sure if this would be appropriate, but I'll put it out for consideration: "Sometimes the only way to stop terror is to make the stand yourself. Let's roll..." in reference to flight 93. Not sure what sort of visual would go well with it.

I would feature a sign (the so-called "Ghostbusters" red prohibition symbol) and make the point that it is basically a label for sitting ducks; only the (evildoer) shooter is protected by it.

If you look at all of the recent and not so recent multiple victim shootings (CNN building, schools, etc.) all of them have this sign in common. It's like bait.

Here's an idea. In the photo, show the interior of a classroom that's "locked down." People (victims) hiding, crying, cowering. Through the window in the door you can see two guys (bad guys) in the hallway, stereotypical "trench coat mafia", ala Columbine. They are coming towards the door of this classroom. And just inside the door is one person, (the good guy), holding a pistol at low ready.

Caption: "They're not coming in here."

What struck me was the math. What percent of the population of Virginia has a CCW? Multiply that by 25,000 students and you get a large number.

Even if it's 1%: 1% of 25,000 is 250 people that COULD have stopped the attack. Isn't it more than 1% though?

How about this (trying to draw a math problem here):

25,000 students
X 1% of people in virginia carry for protection
_______
250 students could have stopped the attack.

VA Tech policy reduced that number to 0

Finish up with the quote from the VA tech administrator who expressed happiness that the law last year to allow ccw on campus was defeated. He said something about now everyone will feel safer.

Maybe we should think twice about claiming our position on this massacre until we find out more about the killer, and what makes him set him apart from other gun owners.

So far, I think we can assume the killer chose a place where he knew he wasn't going to be confronted by another gun owner...just like the Trolley Square shooter did.

A coincidence? Of course not. If he wanted a gunfight, he could have stormed a police station. He wanted a slaughter. Let's just be glad he didn't choose an elementary school.

No matter what happened in Virginia, our rights are our rights. We carry to make sure we won't be caught unprepared in a storm like this one, that we will shoot back rather than have our body-bagged corpses broadcast on television.

Perhaps something along the lines of:
If this [gun pic] has been authorized in the VT dorms, THIS [pic of cop dragging wounded from site] could have been prevented.

-or-

[pic of student-type w/ small CCW-type firearm] we disarmed him, but goblins don't respect "gun-free zones" [ambulance-type shot from the current even]

-or-

[pic of cop with gun] HE wasn't there soon enough. Firearms in the hands of students could have...ahhh, something. I guess I'm not that creative, either.

I just saw that link someone posted about the bill that didn't even make it past sub committee that was supposed to let people carry on campus... very ironic timing. People shouldn't be mad at guns but rather at the politicians.

Someone feels really bad right about now.

A picture of a cleancut GI Bill type person with some obvious VT logo to imply going to school there, head in hands sobbing.

"The military trained me to deal with situations like this. Why did VT force me to be an unarmed spectator?"

Respectfully disagree about waiting.

Matches are used in Evil crimes as well, It is not the Match, instead the Intent of user of said match.
WE do not need to even "hint" at anything Tyranny can twist, turn, misconstrue, and flat lie about.

Evil is Evil and not part of a Polite Society.
