Cops act suspicious towards me while I shop for an AK.

Buy something at the store, and leave. Just before you walk out the door, always be sure to scream: "You'll never catch ME, coppers!" The police always like that. Last time, they took me down to the station so I could show the other coppers my phenomenal voice.

nope, almost all the places I frequent are run by cops or a special deputy sheriff and its more entertaining to hear the latest jokes and gossip there than to go to some stone faced ffl that has the personality and knowledge of a doorknob.

Only 1 time did that almost happen when a uniformed deputy that came in and the owner quickly stopped it before it got anywhere.

Sometimes law enforcement personnel are in fact interested consumers. I say this only because the last firearm I bought was a Saiga. Small shop, run by an elderly couple (70 plus). They have always been nice to me so I stop in and buy ammo from time to time..especially given that their health has been failing. She can reel you in with some conversation...then zap your credit card dry before you can blink. While there she pointed out that they had a NIB Saiga that has been "hiding" in the back room since 2003 and if I had and extra $205 plus tax I could give it a nice home where it would be appreciated (she is good). How does this relate to this thread? This was while they were actively undergoing an ATF Inspection. She actually got the ATF agent that was conducting the inspection to get the rifle out of the back room for her and help her process the sale. When he found out what I was paying for the NIB rifle he became a "consumer" really fast. Asked...me...if he could handle the rifle and was looking it over real well (like a consumer..shouldering it..insert and remove mag..small smile with far away look in eyes...etc). Honestly believe that he may very well have bought one after I left. It was a pretty pleasant experience.

And...I can actually say I bought a firearm with the help of an ATF Agent.

Anyone pulling out the old wallet and filling out the paperwork to buy an AK-47 is sure to attract notice from practically anyone in the area. It's part "He's bold enough to get one of those?" and part "now what in Sam Heck does he want THAT for?". It's all part of what the weapon represents to people. I got a few stares from a lady and her son when I picked mine up in Sportsman's Warehouse, and I'm sure that if cops had been present they would have scrutinized me more than usual.

Suppose the OP did buy an AK and did go shoot up his campus. The same people who are dumping on the two cops now would be lining up to ask how the kid was allowed to buy an ASSAULT WEAPON right under the noses of two police officers.

Thats a bunch of baloney...(my best argument today)
