Powder Measurer

Before you buy or change anything check that when the ram is at the top of its cycle the disk hole is directly over the drop hole in the base. If it is not there can be a ledge there that can hold powder.
You adjust it by turning the expander/flair/powder drop die in or out of the turret.

With very small charges I have also found the adj charge bar doesn't work well. I am fairly sure it's because the charge hole created by the small spacing doesn't sit directly over the drop hole so you don't get a repeatable drop.

Take the hopper off and cycle the throw and look down the hole in the charge bar and you will see what I mean.

My cure was buying the Lee micro-disk but unfortunately they are no longer available from Lee. http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/441523/lee-pro-auto-disk-powder-measure-micro-disk-conversion-unit
There is a company making them aftermarket and you can find them in a google search.

I'll have to look around. I thought I saw one recently.

I have used BDS's mode for small charges and it works great. I have both disk measures (my press came with the non pro disk measure)
I think the Pro disk is worth the money. (not that much) I like it much better.

Someone here on the forum said the Hornady (I think) thru powder die and powder measure with the micro-measure would mount and work on the LEE turret. Do some searches/Google and maybe you can confirm this.

It would be a nice change especially for new load builds.

The Hornady and RCBS case activated powder measure systems should work on a Lee press. Both screw into a 7/8-14 threaded hole and use the case to activate the powder measure.

Both the Hornady L-N-L powder measure and the RCBS Uniflow will work without modifications with either case activated kit.

Other drum style measures could be used but require more changes and modifications to make the powder measure work.

I bought one of the knock-off micro-disk off of ebay. It does a great job. I only use fine grain ball powders such as W231 and Titegroup through it. I highly recommend it.

I use the Pro Auto Disk for 9mm and .45acp and with the double disk kit for .223. Charges are always plus/minus 0.1gr. The only time I had trouble was after 2-3k loads when the mechanism needed cleaning and lubricating with powdered graphite. Make sure your disks travel through their complete range and when the orifice is over the drop tube, it's centered over the tube. With .223, you can just screw the die in farther until the orifice is centered and it doesn't affect anything else. With pistol, it's a bit trickier since screwing the die in or out also changes the flare and you can't change them independently of each other.

What bds says above.

What about it are you not happy with??

I am not sure if there is any adapter that would allow the use of another brand (say RCBS) on the the top of the press. There may be however.??

I use my old RCBS powder thrower on my Lee turret press and it works with issues or mods of any kind.

I have too many powder measures to put up with one that does not work. I thought I was through then someone called to offer me a something I do not deserve. I am so happy with the deal I can not talk about it.

The Hornday LnL powder measure with case activated powder drop assembly works with all presses.

For pistol, order it with a pistol rotor and buy a couple of extra pistol inserts [ optional and recommended ] if you load more than one caliber.

For charges over 20 grains, you need the rifle rotor and rifle inserts. The rifle rotor is good to just over 90 grains.

Reducing the initial depth and then varying the diameter of a shorter metering hole is a great solution. BUT .... I am wondering about the wisdom of Lee Precision by not continuing to market the mirco-disk. The "we broke/lost the die" does not seem to add up. [ I am not sure if it's Lee's story or the re-loader's equivalent to urban legend. ] But anyhow, even if they did lose/break the die; so what ... "make another die" and was there only one die or set of dies? As long as there is demand, then they know they'll sell. Did they throw way all of the engineering drawings for the die(s) as well?

Charge bar is "DINOMITE"!

It's funny how experiences differ. I had to stop using the charge bar because I couldn't get it to drop consistent charges. I also had trouble getting it dialed in to the charge I wanted. No such problems with the disks although I'm going to be buying a Chargemaster so I can have more control over my .223 charges.

That's because royal Lee fans found a DIY way to meter smaller powder charges using the Auto Disk better than the micro-disk ;):D - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=741988

With this $1 mod, you can consistently meter within .1 gr Bullseye down to 1.5 gr, W231/HP-38 to 2.0 gr and Titegroup to 2.5 gr.

Used the Lee for 20 years. Not very good for precision. It seemed to always get staticy and not all the powder would drop.
Today it is the Lyman 55 for the win!

I think someone already shared this but check this out:

http://store.gun-guides.com/Perfect-Adapters-_c_12.html

They make them for the RCBS uni-flow and also the Lee "perfect" measure. I have the Lee version and it works great especially with flake and ball powder. Use it with Bullseye and Red-Dot for pistol loads (even works for .25 ACP) and H335 for rifle loads (.223, .30-30). This just sits on top of your Lee pistol dies, if you want to use it for rifles you need the universal rifle charger die:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/792057/lee-auto-disk-rifle-powder-charging-die-22-to-30-calibers

This setup has worked well for me and it wasn't very expensive. I am a happy camper

That said I prefer using my PACT digital measure for the IMR stick powders...

One other thing I can recommend, if you have an hole in your turret that you're not using, is one of these:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/234716/rcbs-powder-checker-die?cm_vc=ProductFinding

I had a bullet get stuck in the barrel of my pistol because it was under charged. After that I bought the above die for added safety. Also installed an LED light on my Lee turret press with zip-ties so I can more easily look down inside the case an check the powder levels visually... works OK with short pistol cases but not so much with taller rifle cases...

Sorry to ramble on these are just some tricks I've learned since switching from single stage press to the Lee turret press, thought I'd pass them along...
