Check out the Sierra page at PV. It looks like they just got a truckload of match bullets. I got some ordered, and I bet that my Bruno's backorders will ship soon too when they get their truckload too.

I'm pretty happy right now because it looks like I might make it through the summer without having to skip a match because of lack of ammo. Powder is still an issue, but I think between what I have on hand and what should be shipping in the next month I will just squeak by.

I've decided that I too will need to become a hoarder of sorts, or at least keep 18 months of components on hand from now on. I was buying components twice per year or so (once for the winter pistol season, once for the summer rifle season) with small purchases here and there to fill spot needs or trying new stuff.

Between components and magazine purchases (I live in CO), I could have bought 2 new guns in the last few months. Very depressing.

Thanks for the heads-up! It is good to see that SMK-69s have not gone up in price, as I expected them to.

I check this cite several times a week and they have not had powder or primers for a couple of months now.... This is shocking to me for a high volume retailer like PV...

I assume this is an indication of the seriousness and the likelihood of a continued prolonged supply shortage....

If you ask me, I think this will continue for a very long time - say another 12 months or more.

The real long term impact will be that some of these retailers may go bust and this will lead to less competition and higher prices.

Powder valley had primers 3 days ago and get powder in every single week.

PV hasn't had powder for months?? Huh...I wonder how they shipped me 32lbs last month then. They have powder if you aren't real picky. .223 powder?? get some Accurate Arms LT-32. Auto pistol powder??? IMR 800X. Magnum revolver?? W296. Large rifle??? there's a few available options. Don't be picky and you can find something that'll work. If you want to be picky Ram Shot powders seem to be what they get the fewest shipments of. Everything else comes and goes. You have to remember that they aren't a retailer. They're a distributor. Businesses buy from them and when they do, they buy more than the average reloader can afford.

98% of the powders and primers that PV sells are out-of-stock and this has been the situation for months.

They used to take back orders for out-of-stock items but they do not do this now; right?

Yeh, they had Tula SPP last week. They were gone in 2 hours!

I haven't seen the better .308 powders come and go since I started watching a couple of months ago. Did I blink? I did get in on some primers from them recently.

This I did not know. But I once heard that they basically supplied the reloading components sold by one of the larger online retailers--MidwayUSA, maybe? I haven't bought reloading components from MidwayUSA lately, or maybe at all, because I seen to recall that they wouldn't ship powder and primers together (which would help with the hazmat charge) and that this was because they ship them from different locations (and that in one case or the other, it was coming from PV). But you cannot really say "they aren't a retailer." They are doing retail through their web site, and at least in times past, they would do walk-in orders.

I'm happy with PV doing the best they can in these unprecedented times. Let me send you some cheese.

About the only 2 rifle powders I haven't seen in the last couple months are Varget and H335. Those are both so popular they'll probably be backordered for a couple more months. Everything else comes and goes. If you don't have time to keep an eye on their website there are a couple places that still take backorders. The rumor used to be that Midway had powders dropped shipped from PV. But if you ask Midway it gets shipped directly from manufacturers. I don't know about their primers. They may be doing retail sales through their website, but they are a distributor. I don't know if shops get discounts from PV but many small shops rely on getting components from PV if they don't have a working relationship with a manufacturer. I actually have one local shop that beats PV's prices (before the panic anyways) on Hodgdon, IMR, and Win powders, but there's not very many shops that can do that or even match PV's prices because PV is where many of them buy their powders. And they still do pick up orders if you order it when it's in stock and schedule a pick up date but I don't think they're just doing normal walk-in orders with how busy they are.

They have had quite a bit of stuff lately. Just gotta me vigilant. If you have Facebook they update when items are due to arrive and to keep a look out.

I have been dreading getting a face book account, but the way PV and probably others are updating their stuff on face book it has made me think about it.

Thankfully I have been rescued from my delima by a strained financial situation and can't afford to buy much more in components. So I guess its a mute point now.

No need to get it. Someone usually posts it here, somewhere.

Powder Valley has been awesome. Didn't even order the bullets from Sierra yesterday as I am set on .223. Caught the Hornady bullets when they were in, although, I should have pulled the trigger on some more powder, but I am comfortable.

Unfortunately, retail vendors like PV can't do this forever.

Although I have no direct or indirect knowledge of their financial affairs, I assume that if I owned PV that I would be wondering to myself, if I would still be in business this time next year.

If the volume of powders and primers that you are receiving from manufacturers for future resale to your retail customers has been cut way back because of a critical shortage, you can't make money and this is not a good thing.

Don't tell me that vendors like PV are now receiving and subsequently reselling as many primers and powder as they did before this situation began. I just don't believe that. At least that is not what my LGS is telling me about their supply orders from their manufacturers like CCI, Winchester, Federal, etc. They just flat-out are not able to buy much. Their orders are not being filled.

Unfortunately, if the shortage results in many vendors going out of business, this will reduce competition in the market place and will ultimately lead to higher prices for everyone.

Is that code for panic? This is an "in stock" thread..

PV had varget in 1 lb cans 4 weeks ago.
Well, maybe I will catch them next time. There is no "gunbot" for powder, like there is for primers, so it seems that you just have to be lucky. I do check often, though not necessarily every day. And, I do have Facebook -- for access to a private group, and I do not public stuff with my Facebook account -- so now that I've learned about PV's Facebook account, I'm checking that regularly also.

It will get better.

I have two 4# jugs of pistol powder on backorder since February with PV.
I'm hoping this will get filled pretty soon, since they now have 1# jugs in stock.

It's not going to put Powder Valley out of business. I think somewhere on their facebook page they said they've done a couple years worth of business in the last few months. They might not be getting in quite as much stock as normal but they're selling every bit of what they do get in.

And don't take this personally, but TO ME, many of your posts seem like you're encouraging more panic though not directly.
