Powders that will cycle a mini 14.

back when I was younger, and in the US COAST GUARD, I had two mini-14s and my brother gave me some m-16 brass they had shot in the Air Force, about 2 thousand of them. I used 3031 cause that was the only powder I had, and it functioned in both just fine. I don't remember the load, but was in the 1980s cause I retired from the coast guard in 1989. They were the 180 series, and loads of fun to shoot, but as inaccurate as anything I ever shot.

The old minis would obnoxiously shower the far end of the firing line with hot spent brass.

The “Ranch” is the one that throws them into next week, because of the mechanical ejector. The Mini has a spring loaded ejector and are much better in this area, as well as the rear sight but the receiver isn’t machined for rings like the ranch.

My shooting buddy: "I've had my Mini barreled, and my gun smith did some work on it. I've also had the trigger done. I'm only into for 1500.00 and it shoots a 1.5 inch group at 100 yards!!!"

Me: "I got this crappy Palmetto State AR-15 for 400.00 bucks and it shoots a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards, but I agree, your mini has a much prettier stock."

do not own a ar 15, and from the 16s I shot in the 1970s in the coast guard, have never had the desire to own one. I do however own an AR - 10, and it is a great shooter
Only problem I have with any ARs is they are not exactly user friendly, sharp points everywhere, not like a nice wooden stock with no sharp edges. You run you hand along the length of an AR, and chances are you will jcome away with small scrapes and cuts. Not so on a wooden stock like on an M-1 or M-14. Oh and by the way, my AR-10, is just about as heavy as the M-14 I used in army boot camp at Fort Ord, California in 1968.

Depends on the furniture your AR10 wears , Not all have skeleton cutout barrel shrouds old style A2 with modifications allow upgrading without bleeding :D

There I go showing my lack of being up to date! My flip phone is only for talking and I do not have a smart device other than my desk top. I did not even think about a smart device! You have the entire knowledge of mankind right there in you hands. Man I feel more and more ancient .

Why didn't I think of that :what:

So now, instead of a couple pounds of powder you need a new phone, a data plan, AND a couple pounds of powder.

Instead of $90, it's now $500 for that powder...

Good thing I have all the primers and powder I want or need ! I still ain;t a gunna get a new smart device! I just ain;t a gunna :) Bought a bunch stuff back when powder was $8 or $12 a pound and primers were $90 to $110 per 5000, I am content in my reloading situation

All my loaded .223/5.56 are with 3031. Was gifted quite a few pounds a while back and it worked well in my Mini’s, AR’s and Rem700. I see it is available lately. Plenty of 3031 data available. I throw my loads and then trickle up, how I have always done all rifle loads so it’s texture was never an issue.

I have used 8208, H335, BLC(2), TAC all worked fine in my Mini 14.
Of course it throws empties a mile but it does that with factory stuff as well.
