Hi everyone,

I'm about to DROS a LNIB Interarms PPK tomrorow with the intention of pocket carrying it. I've tried to search but haven't come up with much with people's experiences. How do you find pocket carrying the PPK? Any good holster recommendations?

Living in California makes my choices limited when it comes to pocket pistols. Kahrs don't impress me much with the workmanship and they command $600+ for a PM9. For some odd reason the barrels on the Kahrs never look finished. Keltecs go $500 plus, and well... I can't see spending that much on a Keltec. I have a j-frame, but I prefer a semi-auto over a revolver. Lastly, for some reason I prefer a metal pocket carry gun that'll last me a while, since most of the polymer pistols offered for pocket carry felt kind of cheap.

So, it's come down to a PPK. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I know yiou said you'd like to pocket carry, but have you considered IWB? I carry a Sig P232 IWB and it disappears. The PPK is even smaller, I believe.

I'm only 5'10" and I have a gut and love handles that tend to push any gun out and make it print, but this guns conceals well.

Here are some pics. Photo 1.jpg Photo 3.jpg Photo 4.jpg Photo 5.jpg

What Kel-Tec goes $500 plus?
Oh, Kommieforinia!
You can't have them there.
Nevermind!

Personally, I think a PPK is a heavy gun for it's caliber in this day & age.
And it's a really heavy gun for pocket carry.

It, or any other 25 ounce gun, needs a belt holster to be comfortable 24/7.
And there are any number of better 9mm / .40 pistols weighing very close to the same or less now days.

Or many S&W .38/.357 revolvers weighing much less.

Great responses so far! Thanks guys!

Guitargod, I have looked into the P232, and considered IWB carry, but I just want something I can slip into my pockets. I usually use a P2000 for IWB carry. Though, I can probably get away with something with a clip on attachment that I can slip on and off if I need to. But as of right now, pocket carry is my primary goal. Thank you for your insight, those pictures really helped.

usp9 and ed,
Thanks for the holster recommendations. I've looked at quite a few holster companies to see what pocket holsters they offer. I'd like to hear personal experiences with a specific holster model also and possibly compare to other pocket holsters.

Keep the responses coming! It's helping greatly!

Ed DCB,

At my age, "it" may be no more than window-dressing, but I still don't think I would ever be comfortable pointing a loaded firearm at..."it."

I carried a PPK in a Rybka pocket holster for many years with no problem. Just make sure the gun is reliable with your carry load. I put it in semi-retirement when I bought my KT P11 (I won't tell you for how much....... I got THAT good of a deal on it). :D

I've stopped carrying my PPK after I got my XD40 SC. The XD weighs about the same, similar size, although a bit thicker...yet I got more capacity and caliber. IMO the PPK is too heavy for pocket carry, although it conceals very well IWB.

PPK in pocket

I have a PPK and a Galco pocket holster, as shown below, and have used it sometimes. But a loaded PPK goes about 24 ounces, so it is somewhat heavy in a pocket. Because of the very thin profile of a PPK, it slips inside the waistband very easily in the right holster, and lends itself to a tuckable holster with the shirt tucked in over the gun's grip.

I often use a steel Kahr MK9 in a tuckable Comp-Tac 2 o'clock holster. The MK9 is only slightly thicker than the PPK and conceals well in this appendix carry mode.

I carried one for about 12 years, ppk-s, it was a german walther pre -76, I have heard too many stories about the current ones. You have to keep them really clean and properlly lubricated, "more than the modern designs", what about a seacamp, in 380, it uses a "retarded blowback system", I have a 32 for a long time, and unless you are want something for more than self defense, they are a good choice as far as quality and size. They are made from a solid block of steel and you can hide one in a pocket holster, also bersa, american arms, and several others, make small guns in 380, and 9mm. Even a sig 380 used, is a good choice. Good luck with which ever one you choose

You have another option but I find the Glock 26 too thick.

Nonsense, the Glock 26 adds "girth", a 34/35 will also add generous length if so desired. ;-) Sorry, I had to, the picture made it too easy.

I still have an old PPK Galco pocket holster that I'm not using for anything. If you want it, drop me a line and I'll send it to you. Really, its just taking up space in my drawer of stuff.
