I LOVE the 500 magnum, but expensive to shoot.

As for daily carry - .45.

For daily social carry, i.e., not-scaring-the-locals, .45 ACP. For the Back Forty, and general woods-running, the .45 Colt, with handloads

FOR WHAT? Totally depends on application. Carry? I like 9mm for it's combination of power in a small package. Duty caliber? .45ACP, .357 magnum (which you leave off?). Outdoor carry? .357 Mag, .45 Colt. Hunting? .30-30 Win, .45 Colt, .357 mag. .44 mag is great, so is .41, just don't own one. Small game, plinking, general shooting? .22 LR.

I voted other due to lack of specifics. Best ALL AROUND caliber for me would be the .357 magnum hand's down, no argument possible, just the raw facts, law of nature, cannot be refuted without sounding stupid and totally ignorant of firearms. :D BTW, it also fires .38 special which isn't on your list. Of the semi auto calibers, well, I don't think any of 'em beat the revolvers, so I just voted other.:)

Autos are generally weak for any field use (except the 10mm which ain't on the list, either). I guess, if I just have to pick an auto that I don't want to do without, it'd be 9x19 because it's such an effective caliber in such a carryable package. .45ACP has its place in my collection, though, just too much gun for every day carry and the 9 makes more sense.

I like the 9MM and carry one at times but I like the .45 ACP just a bit better.

A 9mm hollow point might expand but a .45 will never shrink. I carry a .45 with 230 grn hollows or as I like to call they flying ashtrays.

probably 9mm, but really need to have .38spl listed, still quite popular.
