Does anyone have have an approximate up to date value on a non-pin, but pre-lock model 17 in like new condition, but without box or papers. Length is 6 inches, and the stocks are full size Goncalvos. The blueing is perfect.

$400 around here, maybe $450 if truly like new. P&R models are a hundred more.

I have not seen one for $450 or less this year. I bought one in the condition you speak with the original box and paperwork for $100 more and that was a negotiated price (Edit: September 2007 [Good idea Xavier Breath]). I didn't think I was getting a bargain, but I felt it was about market price for the condition.

Upper: Model 17-4 $400 in August, 2006
Lower: Model 17-3 $199 in March, 2006
For the one you describe, I'd say $400-450 would be about right, give or take a bit depending on location.

By the way, the guy is asking $500 flat. Face to face no taxes, etc. The gun has not been shot to my knowledge, but my intention is to use it as a training gun for myself and my son.

Well, I went ahead and got it. It should be a great gun that will probably stay in the family for a very long time. do you guys suggest getting replacement parts such as springs, etc for these guns now? Here is a pic, the rest are in the revolver pics section. Thanks for all your help.

It took me a long time to find a K-22 in my price range, but after I did, I bought the next one at the going rate.
Parts are standard K frame stuff, and plentiful. They will be around longer than us. Enjoy!

would someone here feel like giving me a rundown of the difference between the m17 and the m18? near as i can tell, it's really only barrel length. is there something else that i'm missing? thanks!

Model 17 = K-22 Masterpeice.
Model 18 = K-22 Combat Masterpiece.
Model 17 usually has 6" barrel and square-cut Partridge front sight.
Model 18 is a 4" and has a Baughman ramp front sight.
Other then that, they are pretty much the same gun.

Need to unload a Smith and Wesson K-22 Model 17. Although it is not new; it is in original box. Date on box is April 15, 1955. My untrained eyes see no damage to bluing nor any wear marks on grips. Have fired it maybe 10 times in the 35 years I have owned it. K426509 is serial number. Comes with stag grips still in S&W plastic bag. How does one sell such a pistol? I guess we are supposed to tell the location - NC.

ramptester, that is a fine lookin K22. The target grips look very good on that K-frame.
I picked up a K22 this afternoon, 5 screw, serial #K 2356** no box, magna diamonds, etc. I'd estimate finish at 98% as there's barely a turn ring, no wear at all (almost a match of ramptester's finish). No haggle allowed, priced at $475 in Las Vegas. I figure it was born in 1955, same as me. What did they cost NIB back then? Anyone know?
Last year I got an 18-3, serial# 5K5596** with some wear at the muzzle and cylinder front, a spot of rust about the size of a pencil eraser of the sideplate, that I estimate70-75%+ due to the rust spot (now shiny metal, no pits that I can see, but they're there I'm sure) priced at $375, no box, etc. Looking at Supica's tome, it was birthed the same year I graduated H.S. '73.
Same question... price back then?
The 18 is so accurate it's scary. I expect to find out what the K22 can do this weekend. Maybe I'll have a little competition between the two and see if the 4" kid can hold his own with the 6" old man. Do you think it would be fair to borrow my daughter's little 317 3" and take it out with the older fellows? I mean the baby holds 2 more rounds, has a shorter barrel, a stiff trigger, dayglo green front sight and is... kinda a silverish grey color. (shudder) Plus it's such a lightweight. I really don't think it'd stand a chance accuracy wise, but you never know until you try.
Anyway, it'd be nice to know their original costs and some attempt to evaluate value increase now based on wear and tear (or lack thereof) to see if Supica's numbers are close to what the market is really saying. Based on what I paid alone, he's spot on.
