Price spike in Reloading Dies

I’m not gonna dispute there is a shortage but based on my experience, and many comments on this thread, there isn’t much you can’t find.

2 months ago I made the decision to load .40 after I was gifted appropriately 3,500 cases and I had cleaned and sorted them. We only have 1 forty, my wife’s she bought because that was her duty weapon. I had over 1,200 rounds of FMJ and 400+ rounds of HPs for it but with powder/primers and cases, why not?

2 hours on line I had a set of dies (1st ever non-RCBS I’d ever bought) a Dillion conversion kit and 1,000 bullets enroute to the house. I was unsuccessful getting hollow points ordered. A week later, a search of 10-12 sites, still no hollow points. Last week I found and ordered 500 Hornady XTPs, still in the mail. Yesterday, while in a big box store I bought 400 more, and a bonus 2,000 CCI #41s.

I have spent a lot of time, both online, and traveling to 3 “Big Box” stores. But as I type this, I can’t recall 1 single item I needed that I haven’t been able to purchase.

Price? That’s relative. I still have primers and powder from the 93/94 shortages and when I pull a brand new pound of IMR 4350 or RL22 out that I overpaid for back then, and look at the price of $18.00, I get a warm feeling.

Any buyers remorse? 1 item. I purchased a Franklin Arsenal case trimmer off of eBay when I couldn’t find one anywhere else. I paid 120% of what it normally sells for. Before it even arrived, I saw one on a shelf at a store, and another online. So I got a slightly used one for 120% of a new one. My only “panic buy.”

The big difference I see this go round is the lack of those selling that old .22 or single shot shotgun because there's no ammo around so lets make a buck. Now with the whipping up of emotions of the anti 2A crowd NOBODY will get rid of what they have "just in case". Also this is the first time since I have been buying ammo that there was NO 12 GA ammo on any shelves in all the local places for over two months before some came trickling back in. Odd times for darn sure!!

I buy a lot of 12g and stock up because it’s the ultimate survival round... That and .22lr and .223

After looking all over for a reasonably priced carbide .45 acp die set I found them at the source. I ordered a set direct from RCBS for $69.99 plus tax with free shipping. Encouraged by that I headed to Lyman's site and ordered a decapping rod assembly.

Don't worry, in a few months you will find tons of reloading equipment on Ebay , after the hoards give up on reloading because it's too much work....
