I bumped into this price at a small-town gunstore while on vacation. $10 for a box of 20 cartridges, Winchester 200gr SXT 10mm, complete with the dreaded "Black Talon" logo. They were askig $19.95 a box  and said it had been sitting there "forever." Gee, wonder why?

The funny thing is, this is the best deal in town for 10mm...I just need to know if I should buy any more of this than I plan to immediately shoot.

Would be a gamble but....
At that price, could grab em all and auction em off.
A while back, folks were getting insane prices for that stuff.
Says Black talon on box.....
That's the biggie.

The funny thing about 10mm Talons? They're pretty sluggish as far as 10mm loadings go; they came out at the height of the "subsonic" craze.

Subsonic 10mm Auto makes about as much sense as subsonic .357 Magnum, if you think about it for a minute... ;)

Coronach,
I really liked the 10mm Black Talon load. I am most definately a fan of "spirited" 10mm loads, but the BT performed better than the numbers would lead you to believe. I remember choro'ing the stuff @ a little above 1000 fps. but it grouped very well in the custom Delta I was using it in. The bullets performed VERY WELL on a few wild hogs I shot with it.....better than some of the faster, lighter bullets. Much better on game than Silvertips:rolleyes: The long, heavy 200gr bullet had great sectional density......it penetrated well, and always expanded. I would buy a case of it if I could find it at original prices.

BTW, this is my first post here on the new forum.....I think I like it already!

A guhshop near me has a dozen boxes on the shelf for $30 each. Seems about average for what I've seen lately.

From what I have seen on the auction boards, $30-$40/box is the norm. If these are for real, that is a pretty good price. I would buy some up to keep/carry and shoot the rest.

I'd buy every box they had...

we were selling them at our store for $30-40 a box. "Collectors" wanted them.

Sell 'em, make 300%, and use the money for something you want

If they had 10 boxes you could make enough to buy a gun

Buy 'em all.

I would pass on them. Now, they're just a gimmick.

Seem like lots of LEAs kept issue the Talons and officers apparenly could not shoot through all of their issued ammo, so friends get it on the low down and it resurfaces years later on eBay. Sorry but I like fresh ammo for carry.

For REAL hot and heavy 10mm ammo:

175 grain Win Silvertips - all day for $11 a box. Great in full sized 10mm's like a Glock 20 like mine!

Or for faster, 155 ProLoad Gold Dots for some real hummers out of shorter barrelled 10mm like a Glock 29.

$35 a box at the gun show I was at Friday night... I didn't buy any.. At $10 I probably would have.... Maybe pull the bullets and reload them? I don't know if it would be worth the hassle?

Michael

Those 200gr BTs really have no reason to exist except as money-making gimmick. Blah ballistics and the "magic bullet" is nothing special. If you have a suppressed 10mm I'd say go for it, though. :D
