It was for self/home defense I bought our first guns. I'd always liked shooting and having guns got me interested in the recreational uses. Eventually I ended up being a collector.

I answered #1...........all others fall under #1

When the time for action has come ......the time for preperation has passed.
Abraham Lincoln

And also to add to the List......To Uphold 2nd Ammendment Rights

I think it's a great poll question. Everyone probably has a primary reason for owning firearms. I selected recreation because that's what drove my initial purchases. My emphasis has evolved over time; recreation - hunting - self defense. I figure since I probably spend as much time admiring the contents of my safe as shooting, recreation is still at the top.

I own firearms because I am a human being, I am free to do as I please, within the limits of respecting the freedom of other human beings. I own firearms because my life and freedom are worth defending, no matter who the enemy or oppressor turns out to be.

I have a badly injured foot and can't run. So I made sure that I would never have to.

Man, some of you folks must be horrible test takers. "All of the above" by definition could not be a Primary reason.

You have to pick the one most important thing to you. That's the point. That's the challenge to the question. ;)

Because shooting is fun!
And I can get tasty food!
And, in a crisis, I can defend myself!
And it's a natural right, which I am exercising so that it may be preserved!
And to remind folks that wish to affect my usage of that right that, really, I'm armed, and that they need to accept this fact and go monkey with something else, like the speed at which paint dries upon a wall.

Pretty much all of the above.

I like plinking, target shooting, sporting clays...
I hunt dove, ducks, deer...
I carry concealed and have guns in the house for personal and home defense...
I am a libertarian and hate government encroachment in peoples lives...
I have a C&R and have several C&R guns...

biggest lie ever

"we're from the gov't and we are here to help...":barf:

As I tell my kids and their cousins,

I grew up in a place where the local constabulary w/ coniviance of the courts rounded up and slaughtered about 12 million civilians.
(yes the USSR beat that(60 million) but it was over 70 years the Nazi acid trip was <12 years. China is an going mess an last total I saw w/ 100 million or so (since 49) :scrutiny:

here is a summary of their tatics and why the left/dhimitwits drive me up the wall.

yes if you listen you can hear the echos even this far down the line...

I wind up quoting Niemoller wayy too often

''when the came for the tradeunion activist I said nothing as I was not one...
when they came for me I said nothing as there was no one to complain to.''

I yell loud to my misreptiles 1st ammd 4, 5 etc not just the 2nd as all are of importance.

When the Bosnia/Yugoslavia business flared I pointed out that it was no trouble for the serb bastards to round up and execute all their targets and rape/loot/pillage ethinc cleanse etc as the local population was by their (Yugoslavian) law generally unarmed.:banghead:

I voted recreation (since that's the truth), but what I tell people when they ask is that a whole bunch of weirdos own guns, so I have them too in case they try getting weird around me! :scrutiny:

Hollocaust Prevention.

Tell the liberals to suck on that idea for a while if they have doubts. It's the only reason I offer anymore. And it usually shuts 'em up, too, when they're gushing forth about just how 'progressive' and 'tollerant' they are.

cajun47: TEOTWAWKI stands for "The end of the world as we know it". Somehow it has become a fairly commonly used internet meme to describe a time of total breakdown of society.
