Primers at the local Academy sports

Am 2 hrs away from any store that carries a selection of handloading supplies. 99 % of my supplies are mail ordered. The closest Scheels usually has supplies , and used to stop by when traveling for work. Have seen a larger selection on the mail order sites, but prices have stayed fairly high. However you can still get Fed sp primers at $75/1000 at Natchez, which is surprising as they have been on sale for quite awhile now.

I have friends at the local FedEx hub. They tell me the company is trying to do the best it can. If I worked at a place like that I would expect them to close down and everyone get jobs in fast food. That's about the caliber of workers. I pay extra for signature on delivery and nada.:fire:
In all fairness to the transporters, much of the difficulty we experience is self imposed: until very recently our road was a private road and there was a locked gate that could not be circumvented; our post box on the public highway belongs to the postal service and we mailbox holders cannot get into the delivery side; my house has a fence which is patrolled by various mutts, mostly friendly but sure sound ferocious and I happen to know the driver from FedEx who has our route is scared of dogs. These barriers to service don’t justify shenanigans like throwing our packages out on the highway right of way or leaving them in the post office lobby but I don’t think it’s fair for me to speak poorly of the company without explaining the caveats.

At my local academy CCI-500 sleaves were $7.99 two weeks ago, up to $8.99 last week. But, that is without shipping or hazmat.

I made a mistake there. I saw CCI go up, I should have bought some WW before they equalized them, but I didn't. I had just ordered some Federals for my soft spring revolvers.

I have mail ordered primers from Academy:
Pro: Store price (less 5% because I have their card), no add on for shipping or hazmat, nothing.
Con: Poor packing, with primer boxes bouncing around in the shipping carton, no padding. 2 of 3 orders showed up with primers rattling around loose. Counted 63 lost out of one box, fewer missing out of the other.

I hear you but one example was a HazMat shipment that was delivered after I waited till 7PM Fri for possible late delivery. It got left on the front doorstep of work ( high traffic main road and in plain sight) with a night security light and rained on for most of the time. I found it at lunch time Sat, the box fell apart, propellant was OK but the 5K primers were full of water. Called monday and they said I signed for it so my fault for not taking it in??? :fire:
Anyway these days when you find a deal jump on it if you can afford to. It's only going to get worse as the days go by. I am still holdimg out for lower prices and free shipping. But if it fails to materialize in the next 4 months I will act anyway to restock used supplies.

I once got in a wet case of primers. It wasn't full of water but was damp throughout. Since I collected it within minutes of delivery, it had to have been wetted somewhere back up the road. I remembered some tests that the old 1911 Tech Talk email group had run, so I opened a flat of primers and left it on the bench in the air conditioned shop. A couple of days later I loaded them up. All fired. I repeated the process, always keeping a tray or two open to dry while I used the previous batch. The remaining 4900 also fired.

I’m down to 100 SPP. all this makes me want to go drop another C note on a thousand. Wish I would have been able to buy at the OLD prices.
The price is high now and I'm only getting what I need to maintain. When the cycle comes round again, as they say buy cheap stack deep. If you find a deal at 6 cents each buy a pile....

Best I've found lately is OutdoorLimited for Remington 1-1/2's at $65/k. I've not bought from them, so I'm not sure how exorbitant their HAZ and shipping is.

Why spend that much when you can get Fiocchi SPP for $62/k ($375/6k) including shipping and HazMat from American Reloading
Or................go here for much more economical value........

I just picked up 1500 small rifle Fiocchi for $109+ at sportsman’s warehouse today and another AR lower for $59.99. They have federal SR $89.99/1000, & Federal SRM $109.99/1000. Academy had Win SR for $89.99/1000.

I saw all kinds of small rifle and small pistol primers for sale today in Idaho Falls. The cheapest was 120 a thousand. NOPE! I'll order online.
