I bought a brick of CCI small pistol primers from a gunbroker seller. The item photo showed the retail box we're used to seeing.

What I got though was a plain box that was marked: "commercial primers - unplated - Not for resale."

Does the guy work for an ammo company and is skimming them?

Should I be mad? What does the plating do, besides make them look prettier? Make them more corrosion resistant if I leave them sitting somewhere bad for years and years?

OEM primers, they turn up now and again at gunshows and gunbroker. You should only be mad if you paid a lot for them, and they don't go bang. I use them interchangeably with standard CCI when I could get them. They used to be a bit cheaper for bulk purchasing without the plating. I don't think it makes much of a difference other than aesthetics.

I would be irritated.

Several years ago, I was unable to get a pound of vanilla beans from my usual source. I found the EXACT same vanilla beans on Amazon, right down to the label on the package. So I bought them.

What I got was similar to want you got: a generic sealed package of vanilla beans that didn't have the brand label advertised on it and the beans were shriveled and dried up compared to the quality I expected from the company I was expecting them to be from.

For my purpose they were perfectly suitable (making homemade vanilla for my wife's baking needs), but they most definitely were NOT the beans I ordered.

So I posted feedback accordingly, with a 3 star rating and a detailed explanation. I didn't request a refund or return, as they would work for what I intended. I thought it was a fair feedback that would allow people to see what they could expect and still decide if this was for them.

Aaaaaand I got someone chastising my feedback post for it.

When you order (or otherwise buy) something you expect to get EXACTLY what you ordered in accordance with all product descriptions. If there's a difference, then the seller should explain the difference and ensure the buyer is agreeable.

If I order a Lexus and someone substituted a Toyota I would not accept it. They are exactly the same company. The bait and switch I consider fraud.
That's like ordering new brass and getting once fired.

Well, they were $111 + all the fees and shipping.

You know what? Only the exterior box shot was wrong; I didn't even notice all the others, which show the unplated ones I got. Here's the item:

I have never asked anyone (or in this case, everyone) if I should be mad.
Well good for you. Maybe I wasn't clear, but I didn't know what the differences were, so this was my way of asking.

I’d be happy for primers and unhappy for being duped. That said, if it was a good price I’d likely purchase more.
Yeah, it was the only way I would keep some small pistol primers in stock. This will hold me for a few months.

Just playing with you. No offense intended.my apologies

<shrug> I went and checked your link:
"These are NIB CCI #500 Small Pistol Primers. You will receive 1 box of 10 trays of 100 primers = 1,000 primers. These are non nickel-plated primers as shown in the photo and may come in either the blue or white box. There is NO difference except the packaging. These are NEW current production not New Old Stock."

So I think the seller did you fair in the description. I do think you paid too much for them, as CCI small pistol have been going for 80/1K + shipping, but you know, you've got them, and they'll work just fine for you. Neither your bullets, nor your brass, nor anybody at the range will care how much you paid for 'em!

At first, I was thinking I'd be a little upset... I've bought stuff that was NOT what was in the photo, or described in text... but looking at the listing, that's not what's going on here. Besides the sorta misleading blue outer CCI box, the other photos show what I assume you received. Aside from the cost, I'd be happy with them. They are not dissimilar to the CCI arsenal primers I've bought. I would be curious on the sellers source, where he's getting them, but that's just my basic curiosity.

If not happy, probably best place to vent........and correct the problem.......is to leave a review on GoneBroker. Tell them what you told us.

What matters is for seller to accurately describe and represent what they are selling. No misunderstandings that way.

I’m not one for bait an switch, I probably would no longer do business with them but I have some myself and they are just fine. After all they are used by manufacturers for “factory ammunition” that some hold in higher regards than reloads.

I would report him to gun broker because he is not selling what he has pictured. But don't be too mad as long as they go off you got primers for a half way normal price for these days.

I think what happened is that he didn’t have a pic of the outside of the box, and instead of taking one, he got lazy and saved a stock photo.

The payment process for that seller was a real hassle too. Credit card, but not instant; call it in. Then, he wanted written permission to charge the card. Lost that, asked for it again. I’ll have to make sure he didn’t charge me twice.

That’s what happens when you look for the cheapest price.
