Well my second day of shooting my new LCP was not as successful as my first. The first session gave me faith in the little gun. My second session removed my faith. It's not currently fit for personal defense. It consistently has problems feeding rounds into the chamber. It usually happened with the last round in the magazine, but sometimes it had problems feeding the first five rounds as well. It had at least one ftfeed in a magazine, I would say about 70 percent of the time. I'm sad about it. Other people's have worked great. I guess it was my dumb luck to get a lemon.

cowssurf- I've heard that the KelTec P-3AT's are dependable if they're kept very clean, but can be a problem if not. I don't know about the LCP, but it's pretty similar to the KT. Did you clean and lube it before the second day?
Chuck

Yes, I cleaned it very well. I clean my guns very fastidiously. I cleaned the LCP before I ever shot it the first time, and I cleaned it after I shot it. Actually, I just reread your post. You asked did I "clean and lube it before the second day?" No, I didn't clean and lube it before the second day. At least not right before it. I cleaned and lubed it about two weeks prior, which was right after my first session. But I don't think I should have to clean and lube a gun right before I go shooting, as long as I keep a clean gun anyways. If that were the case, and I wanted to use the gun for personal defense, and I wanted it to be reliable, I would have to clean and oil it each day.

It had ftfeeds with Magtech FMJ round nose, American Eagle FMJ round nose, WWB FMJ flat nose, and Hornady JHP/XTP. It jammed more consistently with the American Eagles, but it still jammed with all of them.

dreaded question

have to ask. Have you by chance done any polishing on the feed ramp?? to see if possably it might be alittle ruff in that area. You can call Ruger and they will send you a mailer and let them solve the issue for you, to give up is to admit defeat. You have a gun that is giving issues, not really indicative of the lcps but it doesn't matter what others are doing or not doing. Yours is not right. let Ruger fix it, or take 10 minues and polish the feed ramp and lube it up and shoot it like you stole it.

I'm wondering if the mags started out with weak springs. Lots of ftf problems trace to the the mags and lots of mag problems trace to the springs. Just a thought.

Maybe it's the mag. Maybe it's the feedramp. Maybe it just sucks, though I hope not. I polished the feed ramp. I'll see if that solves it. If not, I'll let ruger figure out the rest.

I experienced many jamming problems with my LCP when it was new. I sent it back to Ruger. They replaced the extractor and polished the insides. Got it back in 10 days. I've shot 300 rounds through it since then with no problems.

Hey look on the bright side; at least you've got one. I haven't even seen one yet, and I've checked with a couple of local, high volume Ruger dealers. Hope everything works out okay for you.

I was going to buy the LCP but my dealer said to wait a little longer. He thinks they are still having problems with production. Some are great, and some not so great. He had one returned by a customer where the slide didn't lock back on the last round. He wanted to fire it himself before he sent it back to Ruger.

gee what a dump f--k dealer. the lcp does not lock back on the last round. IT IS A MANUAL LOCK...

Corbon 90gr JHP's fail horribly in mine. FMJ's and Golden Sabers have been 100%. I have since read about other people having similar experinces to mine with those Corbons and the LCP.

Just got mine Friday, I had the same kind of problem - FTF - with the first few mags but after about 100 rds it seems to be doing better. In my opinion, many autos need to be broken in. I had the same type of issue with my Ultra Carry II but after about 500 rds its running nice and smooth.

I think I'll run a couple hundred rds threw my LCP before making any conclusions. I say shoot the crap out of it. try different ammo brands and shoot the crap out of it some more.

Your dealer is not 100 percent dumb. this is good advise with any new gun:
my dealer said to wait a little longer

Best to give them time to get them right and avoid the product recalls.

Well, do I feel silly. I thought the LCP did lock back also.

Yes. The government requires you to get a license to operate them in public, and if you're irresponsible or stupid, you'll probably kill yourself or somebody else sooner or later if you operate one.

Mine is currently AT Ruger getting fixed. Pics below show what it would do. Replaced the magazine, problem got worse. It would jam the round against the chamber roof - EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE. In light of their "other" recall, it may be a while until I get it back.

Mine is actually getting worse. I polished the ramp--it's not that. I checked the magazine rails--very smooth. I don't know what it is, but now I can add Remington UMC to the list of ammo brands that jam in it. My other two semi-autos are a Stoeger Cougar and an FNP-9. I've never had them jam. I think a gun should be reliable right off the bat. The nature of a gun--what it is used for, especially a CCW-sized gun--requires that the gun be reliable. I don't think it should have to be shot by the owner 200 to 500 rounds before it can be relied upon to defend yourself or your family.

One of my local dealers had one break from one dry fire.

I'm completely turned off to these guns.

what broke??? Hope its not the same dealer that GUNS AND MORE went to????
