Problems with my Ruger LCP.

He said the customer picked it up. Dry fired it and now the trigger wont reset. It's on it's way to ruger who said they are getting backed up with the SR9 and LCP

I sent it to Ruger today. They sent me a UPS mailer for the shipping. We'll see what they do.

should have bought a kel-tec :p

I haven't had a chance to play around with the LCP yet, my p3-at hasnt had any feed problems, the only major difference between the two that I know of is different ejectors, but that has nothing to do with your problem.

Yeah, but I hate the way the Kel-Tecs feel. They are rough and poorly finished. If both guns reputedly have their share of problems, I'd rather have one with a nice finish at the very least. Maybe what I should've done is wait for the new Kahr.

I picked up a LCP on Monday and took it to the range on tuesday. I ran 50 rounds through it with multiple FTF. I couldn't say it was the last round in a mag-- it seemed more random. I guess I'll have to pay more attention next time I shoot. I was hoping this would clear up with some break in but after reading this thread I have my doubts. I suppose time will tell.

How would you recommend polishing the ramp? Sounds like a reasonable modification.

Ain't "beta testing" a gas? Goes with being the first to jump-on the Next Big Thing these days, more often than not.

At least Ruger won't usually try and charge you for the "privilege".

I wasn't trying to jump on the "Next Big Thing." In fact, as much as I hate to admit it, I knew nothing of the LCP until I saw one at my local gun shop. I went looking for a P3AT but they didn't have one and that's when I was introduced to the LCP. I went home, read as much as I could-- most of it very good-- and then went back to the store after an unsuccessful weekend of searching for a P3AT. Much to my surprise, the LCP was still there, probably because it was overpriced IMHO, but I was not in a position to quibble. More surprising, the shop had a P3AT on the shelf as well but it was the green frame and that didn't appeal to me so I took the LCP. Funny thing is, I had no sooner asked to look at it when a fellow walks in and asks to see an LCP. Of course, they only had the one and I was holding it. lol

For the record, I was looking for a .380 because recent surgery has left me unable to comfortably carry my Kahr K9 for long periods, not because I was looking to jump on some imagined band wagon. Hell, if I could have waited (August, September, whenever) I likely would have opted for the Kahr. I love my K9 and use it frequently to chase Moonies from my front door.

I use a soft fiber thing loaded with polishing paste on a dremel tool . Brightens it up without removing metal. I also sometimes slick up the rails by moving the slide back and forth with the rails loaded with fine valve grinding paste. Have to be sure to get all of this out of the gun and relubricate before shooting.

So's Theta Testing* Like being the first to break a part on a new gun.

* Theta- Greek short for 'thanatos' ie: testing to distruction.

I think with any new pistol, one should experiment with different types of ammo before blaming any malfunctions on the weapon itself. I think a lot are too quick to call the weapon crap right away. You just spend 300+ on the gun, spring another 50 and get a few boxes of different brands. The problem may be a lot more simple than you think.

Was attempting a sarky "tongue-in-cheek" general observation, not a personal jibe. Sorry if you feel your toes were stepped-on.

Think of it as being a comment from one who's learned the hard (and sometimes expensive) way that buying the first year production models of anything is often not the best idea.

I owned a Dodge Aspen. Enough said.

what broke??? Hope its not the same dealer that GUNS AND MORE went to????

Man, you guys are brutal! I still like that dealer, because the price is right and usually I have researched what I want. I've gone to other dealers that try to be a "know it all" and I'm turned off by them. My dealer seems to be in touch with the market and distributors pretty well. (Although he was wrong this time, and so was I)

No worries here. Clumsy as I am, I'm more likely to step on my own toes than anyone else. Just wanted to clarify my position. One of these days I'll do my homework before I buy. Hell, I bought my Kahr in 1996 when no one had ever heard of them. You should have seen people's faces when I told them what I shot. They looked at me like I was crazy. Now that I think of it, some of them still do. Hmmmmm.

taurusowner,

It looks like you read only the previous couple of posts, and then posted. If you'd read the whole thread, you would know I've put many different ammo brands through my LCP. They all failed me. Or rather my LCP failed them all.

As to the point on money, I don't buy that philosophy. I spent 300 on the gun, and I expect it to work. Why should I be expected to pay more than that? I liked the price. Rugers have served me well in the past. I gave my money away with the idea they would serve me well again. So far they haven't. Fortunately, they stand behind their product, and they are working on my gun, after they payed to have it shipped to them. I expect to eventually hold a gun that works reliably or a refund, not to sink more money into a lemon. I don't see why that is unreasonable. People can say, you get what you pay for, blah, blah, blah. But I don't care what the price is, if a company is worth their salt, they will back their product, regardless of its price point.

+1

No fluffs and buffs, no finding the only ammo it likes, no trips back to the factory, and no break-in periods... just a working test period. Unfortunately, you don't always get that any price, much less for $300. :(

So did they give you any kind of estimation on when you'll see it again? Hopefully the S.R. 9's aren't given a higher priority just because they were Ruger's recall. I've only had good experience with Ruger C.S., but wasn't during a recall period. Good luck!

First Post - Hello

Had to post.

Just picked up the LCP this morning.

Bought a box of Am. Eagle95 Grain FMJ.

Gun practically dripping oil as I worked the slide.

Load up 5 rounds.

FTF #5.

I was ruined with my first gun. I bought a G17 from a friend. Fired every sort of ammo through it. Fired that this more limp wristed than Andy Dick. Cleaned it once in a 4 year stretch. Probably fired 2,000 rounds or more through it.

FTF - 0.
FTE - 1 (on a limp wrist).

This was my first Ruger.

This will be my last Ruger.

When I was at the store, I saw the P3AT right next to it. I had owned a KT9mm - piece of garbage that would not fire 3 mags in a row. I traded my KT for a dog crate. Figure I ripped the guy off, but I told him I was ripping him off. Some people have to learn for themselves.

So I thought, "well I knew KT was sh-t when I bought it, but I hear Ruger makes good guns."

Well, if you mean, "makes guns, of which some are good", then maybe.

If you mean, like Glock, "makes guns, and they are good", then you'd be wrong.

If a gun will not feed the first mag with factory standard ammo, then it is . . . sadly . . .

a POS.

I got rid of my Kel Tech because I'm in the camp that I shouldn't have to improve upon what the factory does to get my gun to a minimum operating quality.

Same goes for the LCP.

This reminds me of Husky saws. I remember when I heard a friend tell me about a Husky he bought at bLowes or Home Cheapo that crapped on him the 5th time he fired it up.

I thought - "well, there goes Husky." But Husky fans will tell you, "well THIS model is good, even if that one is a dog."

Likewise, if, when I see a manufacturer's name, I have to pull up a list of the "good ones," then I'm not interested.

I have one of the first LCP's that my local dealer got in. I have yet to have any problems with reliability in feeding or firing any types of ammo. Like my other Rugers it eats up anything I put in the mag. After my last trip to the range with it I decided to see how it would function after being carried for a while. So for three months I carried it in my pocket, under the front seat of my jeep, and in a cheap uncle mikes IWB holster. When I took it out to the range it had lint covering the hammer. I live in Texas and with the humidity and heat on at least 4 occasions when I unholstered the pistol it was litteraly dripping with sweat. When I took it out it fired 100 rnds of mixed ammo without any problems. The only thing I noticed was that it seemed to be harder to remove the slide from the frame when breaking it down to clean it. I put the calipers to the frame rails and will be watching them closely to see if they're somehow spreading.

Well, it seems we have proof that this model of gun comes in a full range of quality from problem-free out of the box to crap out of the box.

In light of their "other" recall, it may be a while until I get it back.

Well I am still waiting for the "other recall" to take place. I registered for it in April. It is now the end of July. They had originally stated May.

So here I wait. I liked the numbers on the LCP too. But I will wait a while and see how it shakes out.

I just hope one day this year they get to my SR9. IT ain't critical, the Ruger SR9 was purchased on a lark and for only $350, but it would be nice to get it fixed. Either way I will still be CCWing with my Colts and Highpowers.

As long as they make the SR9 good, I will get a LCP. Until then I will just wait and watch.

Go figure.

Fred

lcp

i have shot over 300 rounds of ammo from wolf to win rangers and i have only had it jam once with the first 100 rounds of wolf wich is not the cleanest ammo i cleaned it and put another 100 through it with no problems and then switched to rangers that i carry and i have shot 3 or 4 boxes of them with out a cleaning. i love mine

I called Ruger today. They got my LCP on July 10th. Customer service said they are backed up a month. So maybe in two weeks, I'll have my LCP back, and we'll see if it's going to stay.

I bought a new Ruger LCP and have 100 rounds through it with zero problems or malfunctions. The GS I bought it from threw in a box of ammo and I insisted on getting the "worst .380 ammo you have." I wanted to ensure reliability, even with crappy ammo. I forgot what brand it was since I threw away the box and I'd never seen it before. It was in a yellow box though. I also bought a box of Independent ammo.

I love this little gun. Seems to be rock-solid and reliable as hell. I didn't have a single FTF or FTE. I didn't clean it or lube it at all. Just pulled it out of the box and went for it one magazine at a time (my only complaint is that it comes with 1 mag and not 2). The spent shells were flying consistently at least 15 feet to the rear/right. The extractor/ejector seem to work perfectly, and I already trust this gun fully as a carry weapon. Much better than a Kel-tec in every way if you ask me. The fit and finish are just superb for a gun this little and affordable. I have owned sooo many pistols from Glocks to H&Ks, and this is my absolute favorite due to how practical it is and how affordable it was to buy.

Just out of curiosity, what problems have been encountered and were/are there any recalls that I should be aware of?

I have about 200 rounds through my LCP. It didn't like to feed Corbons but it has been 100% reliable with Hydrashoks, Remington FMJ, and WWB. I like mine a lot.

Update.

So I just put the other 94 rounds through the LCP.

No issues.

Maybe #6 was unlucky.

Time to go get a few more boxes . . .

Will update.

Uncomfortable to fire lots of rounds. I have a small blister on the inside surface of my trigger finger.
