Proud of my wife, too.
My wife is new to pistol shooting, too. After years of quiet anti-ism, then reluctantly letting me indulge my hobby, she finally agreed to get her own 9mm (after finding my .40s and .45s a bit too heavy recoil on a range trip together). Bought her a G19, which she shot once, back in September, and didn't have a great deal of success. I finally got her back on the range on Valentine's Day.
First magazine was wild, all over the place, mostly to the left. Hmm. Took her through sight picture again, stance, etc. Second mag was still wild and left. Finally figured out she was shooting with both eyes open, and she was sighting with both eyes. Had her close the left eye (after doing an eye dominance test).
She immediately put 27 of her next 30 shots in the -0 zone of a standard IDPA target. At one point, she had a 3-shot string I could have covered with a half dollar. Pretty dang good shooting for someone who's only shot a pistol 3 times in her life.
She left the range absolutely beaming, determined to shoot at least once a month.
