PTR-91 First impression, shooting

I would really like to hear from the A3R and GI owners on their accuracy and over all experience.

Having run the CETME thru HK thru PTR variations for years, my conclusion is that that the PTR is not only better than the factory rifles as far as fit and finish is concerned, it is the best...period.

Someone's a bit carried away. The clones are in no way, anywhere near the equal of the real McCoy. So let's get that out of the way first.

That said, there is nothing wrong with a clone and most will provide excellent service.

Congratulations on your new rifle OP, they shoot very well and are more accurate than most people typically understand or expect.

Yes it beats up the brass but its not an issue since it lands in the next county anyway. I had no idea that the firing and extraction process could be so violent.
That might explain a milk carton I saw with a picture on it of an empty 7.62NATO casing with the words "Have you seen me" above it. :p

Okay back to serious
I've always kind of wondered about the "extremely" forceful ejection on these type of weapons and thought shouldn't they have toned it down a bit in the testing stage when they designed it? I mean, that's got to be a hazard to anyone in the trench, or what ever, to the right of the gun. Getting hit in the face with one or more emptys flying out with that much force has to hurt, not to mention "you'll shoot your eye out kid". Has this ever been an issue with this design?

Please elaborate? Also, he may be referring to parts kit guns build from HK originals (those tend to be fairly abused when we get them, so I could see the builds be problematic)

I would agree a CETME is no equal to an HK; those forerunners were greatly improved upon (gawd, that selector lever is a beast), but what are the actual, quantifiable differences between the PTRs and HKs, I thought they were supposed to be very faithful copies? There's just not a whole lot to go right or wrong in HK's brilliantly simple design, so as long as the bolt-gap/cocking-handle-gap was done correctly, it's hard to believe there's too much variation between them

PTR needs to make an MP-5 semi version.
They would sell a ton!

If they can keep the same price points as the G3 clones, yes, definitely. The current batch of MP5 clones are too pricy at $1500 for base models.

I haven't read any bad reviews of PTR's. Glad they're doing well. I've thought about getting into a semi auto .308, but the price of the ammo is a killer as much as I'd like to shoot it. I'll just have to stick to my bolt action.

I wanted to update by saying that we replaced the aluminum tactical handguard with an o.d. green wide handguard. I have a recent production ptr91f with the "bull" barrel however this part was still a drop in fit and the quality is outstanding. The rifle handles much better with the wide handguard! This ptr exudes excellent quality. As good or better than anything I have. Here is my 308 semi family photo.
