I got pulled over by a cop tonite, for going thru a stoplight. It was pouring rain out, and I didn't want to get rear-ended if I slammed my brakes on. I didn't actually think he was going to give me a ticket, with the mitigating circumstances and all. I also turned on my interior lights before he walked up.

After he asked for my license, he asked for my Proof of Insurance. I told him, "Officer, before I get my Proof of Insurance for you, I want you to know I have a concealed carry permit, and I have a pistol in a soft case in my glove compartment box. So when I open my glove compartment to get my Proof of Insurance it will be in there."

He said, ok, thanks for telling me, and he got out his Streamlight to shine on my glovebox. I opened up the glovebox, got my Proof of Insurance and gave it to him. He looked at it, gave it back and went back to his car.

He then came back, gave me my ticket, and then said, "Once again, I appreciate you telling me about your CCW." And then went on his way.

Pretty good all the way around.....accept for the damned ticket.

I was with my a friend who is a sworn police officer here in Cali. We got pulled over (he was driving) and when the officer reached the car my friend told her he was and off duty LEO and he has his gun on him. When she herd that her hand went to her gun immediately and she double snaped ready to rack back while he got out his wallet. Man it is a joke here in cali...not even cops are trusted!

I once made a "rolling stop". I was turning right and looking left. I proceded and low and behold he was right there. I just immediately pulled over. He walks up and the first thing he says is do you know why i pulled you over? I stated "yes, cause I didn't make a complete stop, that's why I immediatele pulled over when i saw you, before you even turned on your lights" He asked for the usual and that's when I stated that I have a CCW. He asked if it was on me and I said no but there is a pistol in the glove compartment. He said " no problem just set it on the dash" Mind you my 125# chocolate lab is in the front seat with out his seatbelt on too. He took the licenses and started to walk away when he stop and said " Is there a reason you're not wearing a seatbelt?" I stated "No Sir other than the fact that I usually don't" I was honest. He then caught me off guard and asked how old my lab was? I said 3 yrs old. He walked away and I waited. he comes back with a ticket not a moving violation for not stopping...yippee no points, but one for no seat belt which he said was only $15 and could be paid to any Community services instead of the court if I wanted. I said "thank you" I gladly paid my fine at the Central emergency services. I still feel I should have the choice of whether or not I want to wear a seat belt. I'm not forced to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.......
go ahead and ridicule for for not wearing my seatbelt or wearing a helmet....

Touching on the subject of seatbelts, my best friend was killed while driving because his girlfriend was sitting next to him without her seatbelt on and their heads collided. She died too. On the flip side, another good friend of mine was thrown from his vehicle (because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt) just seconds before the car hit a tree which completely destroyed the drivers compartment. He broke over 50 bones but he lived and made a full recovery. He's stong as an ox these days.

Most times someone's killed in a wreck, it's because they were ejected-no seatbelt. Not always, but very often. Once in a blue moon (what the h*!! ever that is!) someone's actually saved because they were ejected. Very darned rarely!!! Just don't ask me to pay your medical bills via Medicaid or whatever because you were such a good driver you didn't need a seatbelt or helmet (on a bike)! End rant. I'm an ER Nurse.

Re: seat belts.

Most of the time, if a person sells all he owns and plays it all on the lottery he loses. But every now and then one of them gets lucky and wins. Yet, that does not convince me to sell all my assets and play the lottery. In other words, I will wear my seatbelt.

Re: the original post

Good job on handling the stop in a reasonable manner. That makes gun owners look better. Sorry about the ticket.

I know I know. i'm trying really. It's has to be habitual. Like I said I feel I shoiuld have the choice. Actually most times now I do wear my seatbelt. I'm trying to get into the habit. I know what is best. But not everyone does what is best for them out of stubborness I guess. In fact if, If I had never been told by the states that I "must" wear one, I would probably be wearing one all the time, but I am working on it, honestly. It's the little rebel tyrant in me.

"go ahead and ridicule for for not wearing my seatbelt or wearing a helmet...."

I got no problem with people excercizing their right to not wear seatbelt or helmet, but I think they should also be treated the same as a person with a "DNR" order. No use wasting my tax dollars on saving the life of a person who cannot take the simple step of using seatbelt/helmet.

Also, us property owners aquess to giving up part of our legally owned property to the public use of automobiles, etc. not to have your dead body lying on my lawn. At least when you get killed with your seatbelt on, you are less likely to have your corpse thrown onto some guy's yard

Cop Stories

Had a cop stop me once for expired license plate sticker...2 weeks past due.
Told him that I'd been so busy doin' the on-scene armorer thing for the range shoots, that it had slipped up on me. We talked guns for a few minutes and he told me that...since I was a gun man...he was givin' me a warning ticket instead of a pink slip if I'd get the sticker up to date within seven days.
Pretty cool, I thought.

heres a similar true story

Back in rhe summer 1980 I was driving cross country - visiting home while on leave in the Air Force - I got pulled over in Iowa (air plane giving speeding tickets they had a line of us waiting to be written up) and when the cop (state trooper?) got to me He asked for License & registration I reached for the glove box then stopped and told him I have a Pistol in the glove box.

He asked Is it loaded? I said yes (and remember no CCW in 1980). He said something to the effect of Good thing you told me we don't like surprises like that and just bring out the paper.

He wrote me up and I was on my way. Nice guy, no attitude...I always wonderred if it was legal to keep a loaded pistol in a glove box in Iowa?

I was a profesional firefighter retired after 25 years, I have been to 100's of auto accidents. I wear MY seatbelt all the time.

I fell asleep and rolled my Ford F-350 four times. My truck was demolished, I wasn't, but only b/c I was wearing my seatbelt. I'm sure I would have been thrown out and rolled over, which would have been a bummer.

And I've been in enough accidents....lol.... (40 mph, and under) that my seatbelt has kept me from taking the impact with my face.

Alway wear your seatbelt I say.

I got stopped a little over a month ago for speeding...first time since I've had my CCW. When I gave the cop my permit and driver's and told him I had a 45 on my right hip he just said 'OK' and went back to his car. I guess this is GA, but still I thought there'd be some reaction based on internet stories. He came back, gave me the ticket and said, 'Here's your licence and permit' and explained that there'd be a lot of traffic cops out in that area in the future. He never batted an eye. I guess they figure if you've got a permit you're probably not a troublemaker?
