Putting a little more power in a $15.00 Daisy

I really don't remember how I ended up here. I've been shooting and working on airguns since the middle 60's. I'm now 72 and have slowed down so maybe the BB gun project posted here is my last fling. I keep coming back in hopes more people will post theirs.
The nice thing about working on the Daisy's is the cost is low.

I can't say I remember either, Chris- but I do know you have been part of this community for a VERY long time. Like 2018 or thereabouts, if memory serves.Definitely a 'Charter Member'!

Yea I also come here every day just to see what's up, It's been slow lately .
I have a couple of projects I'm thinking of doing or in the process of doing but need tweaking or finishing before I show them off.
I'm thinking about making one of those long rifles like BlackBarrel Customs has made, I really like the super long look.
Of course mine would be a single shot muzzle loader with a few of my machined/hand made parts and other tweaks.
Nothing that would be for sale, I'll let BlackBarrel worry with customers I want to keep it fun for myself, but my ideas are always free for anyone to use and if ya have any questions ....."just ask"

That sounds interesting! There's another fellow, Jeremy aka "wolf" who I converse with and he's doing a long gun, too. He latched onto your idea for carbon fiber shot tubes and seems to like them. Unfortunately, I've yet to take the plunge but maybe someday if my damn back would just let up some.

On a much brighter note, my buddy Matt at the Post Office, whose daughter Matty shoots competitively with the county 4-H Club team, told me their team won the Nationals this year! So a big "WAY TO GO" to Matty and the team, the coaches and the parents, not to mention Daisy for making it possible!!

Thats really kool I didn't know Daisy was still doing that, to bad nothing like that down here in Fla. (at 69 they wouldn't let me play anyway)
Mark do you have any more information or better yet pictures of Jeremy aka "wolf" long gun?
I always like to see what others are doing, maybe you could get him to post some info on what he's doing on the forum?
Is he building a repeater or single shot muzzle loader?
I'm still kind of in the design stages with mine, I want to make it to resemble a Kentucky long rifle but the drop on comb is outrageous on the real gun and transferring it onto a gun with a cocking lever is quiet a problem. It's like making it cock without a cocking lever, make any sense?
T.C.

Make the stock an extension of the cocking lever, maybe?

Jeremy has shown me a few design mock-ups but nothing concrete yet. I'll send him a link to this thread.

That would be great if he would and maybe show us some of the designs he's working on.
I realize that sometimes people like to keep things under wraps for various reasons and I can respect that, but it would sure be nice to see.
Terry

When I was in basic 52 years ago, they were teaching a technique called "quick kill" using Daisy lever actions. I think they were the Buck model. They had resin handguards and stocks made for them. They had a pistol grip attached to the cocking lever so from a hundred yards they resembled a M16. They had the carrying handle and front sight tower of an M16 but no sights. The technique called for shouldering the weapon and using both eyes looking above the barrel to track the target. Some of the guys got very good at it and could hit a 1 inch metal disc thrown in the air.

Thank you for serving in the military.

It's my understanding the gun you describe was the first or possibly second iteration of the Daisy used for the Quck Kill program. There was also a version based on a Daisy mounted in an M14 stock. But the most common was built on the "wide frame" model 95 Daisy.

Quick-Kill-TASC.jpg

One of the civilian versions was called the "Quick Skill", they were based on the 95 or 99 but the 95 was more common. As the photos show, these sight-less 95s had the furniture like the 96 (except the earliest ones) and they looked more like a 96 than anything. Makes me wonder why they didn't just use the 96 to begin with.

This is built on a 99:

There was also another instinct shooting Daisy, this one was built on an early model 99. It was branded/ endorsed by Lucky McDaniel. Came with a BB shot tube (gravity fed, not spring loaded) and a cork ball barrel.

This one was a later model 99, it uses the stamped steel trigger instead of the modular model 99 trigger we have come to expect to see on a 99.

Another Lucky model 99, this one in bronze. Again, gravity fed:

Well cold balls decide to let me and I'm known if you guys want to know about my ideas I've only been at this for 4 months but I have done a lot different trades in my life so the ability to salvage repurpose and build is just something that comes natural to me plus I'm a gamer fallout is my favorite game. But back to the topic I have 2 current rifle barrels in the standard beast series above me they are from a power line 880 and I bought a second one I left full length to do what I call a buccaneer package which will be utilizing a 111b or a 105 buck. I come up with an idea and I work at it I'm trying to figure out how to make a universal stock for high low pivot and different Kurt stocks also working on different plunger setups and Spring staging I use internal Springs on most of my builds I also plan to make an auxiliary air chamber utilizing free space but that's an idea that I've got to know people hopefully I share more on it because it's the only idea of all my research development and tinkering That I want to actually produce as a product I plan to make one out of the PVC and 1 of the brass because like all these days I have Also started collecting and restoring as early models that I can that don't get up seen in price I have a couple model 40 is a couple wide frames I have 26 various models and I have about 4 duplicates in total so altogether I probably have I'd actually say 32 gunsAnd very mine I literally started doing this 4 and a 1/2 months ago Terry understand that you're the one that actually came up with the carbon fiber idea the back pressure created out from them is amazing I prefer over the rifle barrel and the fact that I'm trying to make a custom magazine shot too that's a threaded barrel it's also rifled that will fire pellets I want to break 600' per 2nd but that's only if the gun is capable of a repetitive fire and consecutive numbers I might tinker I might be new with this but I have a goal and I'd like to participate with what I can the Kennedy on my far fetched and sometimes completely insane but turn out to be amazing builds. I will talk you're off so I wouldn't be prepared for that I have no one to talk about this as of last night I found out it's as simple and stupid to make a B series threaded by simply throwing an abutment in it and tamping it down and I put the proper seal for the larger chamber behind it and I now have a 1938 B magazine barrel. I have attached a few pictures of my collections and various projects I worked on as I get to know people better and be a little more trusting cause I've been a lot of good people in this overall community just in my Hanging around the outside basically cobalt has been a great friend and a well of knowledge and it's helping a lot of things that I usually need specific information or I get stumped on which the stone part doesn't happen too often I always figure out a solution I liked the challenge The model 40 that you see with the frame extension is one of my pet projects of making a FrankenDaisy We're a plan that doubled the plunger length air tube and overall air champion of the gun still utilizing a single crank I started all this with the idea of teaching my niece to shoot and I wonder gun that was good for me my current too most powerful is the model 50 golden eagle I haven't messed with it at all And A105 buck utilizing I'm pretty sure it's one of cobalt's power Springs with an overall added an overall added spacing of about 5/8 I put a milem washer on both ends of all my Spring assemblies to Spring assembly is to stop the rubber cross the top and I also use Allen spacer with a rubber ground to stabilize the barrel between the loading port and the front site on the B series items because of floating barrel at the end with a single point and bbs rattling around in it Continuously shifting the barrel position makes for a very inaccurate play thing I look forward to sharing more information learning more from you guys I appreciate everyone's hearing everything you guys have done for it so far so far I know it might seem crazy that we're all bunch of guys that like BB guns but you'd be surprised how much you can get out of a single crank when you really put your mind to it. My current favorites out of everything I found so far of course the model 50 gold eagle the model 94 which it's original Spring to me is pointless it's stupid long almost 3" longer than standard length Springs and it really doesn't have the power for the struggle of putting it on the plunger assembly and the wide body model 99 I am a big person that hates gravity feed I find it pointless there's no reason they should have done away with the abutments they were dumb for doing that I have no problem telling them that they screwed up

No plastic And at the lower pitcher you see a Springfield edition model 1 11 40 that I got from right from Roger which is a collector goes of the stuff and I'm pretty sure you guys know him he knows you all more a less. But back to topic I'm putting a defender 141 into an M1 carbine stock to make the m1defender to 1 up the war effort gun. Side note I say it's a silver row ago when anyone wears any form of identification thanks all service members for their service anyone here that has I appreciate it it's something I never got to do because I was making good money still want to but anyhow feel free to ask me questions or anything I know I'm not experienced like you guys are but I'm not afraid to try something I think about and do my best at it in the meantime I'm sorry I talk a lot I make long messages I don't mean to I'm adhd it just happens. I'm excited to be here. It all starts with daisy

Glad you made it, wolf. Here all this time we been talking and I didn't know you had a dog, it looks like a good'un. And did I actually see you use a couple periods??? You must be trying hard to get your thoughts across- you never use periods when you message me! lol

We still need to work on run-on sentences, though...

Yeah believe it or not I actually typed all that out I have a bad habit for using talk to text everybody. I try to go through it but my brain is going a million miles a minute all the time So yeah I get sidetracked and sometimes repeat myself but it's a curse that's a gift and it gives the curse. Glad to finally be here everybody I'm gonna hold back on the post for a little bit because I have a lot of crap I could show everybody and the short period of time I've been doing this but I don't want to bombard the forum right off the bat. Oh Terry this was the beginning of the Buccaneer package I was making" turn your toddlers toy into a man cannon. Buccaneer plink like a man" yeah my brain to it right to production commercials XD Also all my packages are basically firing from 75 -80' away with almost no elevation chane requirement And if it does require any elevation it can be kept within the peep sight so it meets within the parameters of the gun's ability as I consider. Kaboo's customs on eBay he does 3-D printing I swear by his friend's sights they actually reduce the sound which is a good thing for hyper builds and I haven't working on a model 99 site that will go into the B series front plugs that way he can a Universal item and make custom front sight pictures and it naturally goes with his rear speep sights I gave him the redesign input on his current style it'd wasn't my exact description but it worked out just as good and I swear by his work normally one of his items or something I've got from cobalt in every build. I can't wait for the 99 b series front plug to be finished. Caboose customs will work with you on designs. Cobalt thanks for bringing me here man I really appreciate you for all you do for the community. I think I heard your name like day 3 of all my modding. I need to **** an let others catch up. I miss these old style thread setups. Simple an functional like everything should be. K.I.S.S right

Welcome Wolfman
You are a busy person, I'm going to reread your post before I ask you a few questions, don't worry about long post everything your doing sounds very interesting.
Just don't know where to start?
I have some obligations this morning but I'll get at it this afternoon.
Terry

I just want to also clear up the air with that reply to tear intellectual property is still someone's property we all come up with designs on our own when you start tinkering taking down salvaging and reconstructing I live by moral Fiber and integrity there are paramounts in this life right next to caring about your family if there are any ideas that I put out here someone else has come out with before I promise there is no Do you have re going on nor am I trying to take anyone's idea without acknowledging them for every step that they have done people need to be recognized for what they do toward a community and what they have done themselves A word might not be real good right now because early in the morning but I'm here for the right reasons and Want to share these things that I have discovered and come up with someof course some of them are just common sense things that anyone that's this disassembled and reassembled will figure it out. I'm so excited to finally have other people that are interested in a pneumatic stroke creating a projectile that this thread has actually been set to my homepage on my smartphone I check at least 23 times A-day so anyone who's looking to have someone to actually talk to about this stuff I'll be here a lot I have no social life I choose not to. God tired of people doing me wrong you know we've all been there but On a happier note glad to be here

Wolf, not to change the subject but was your avatar photo taken down in FL? It looks like a cove off of East Lake Toho in my home town. I seriously doubt it's the same cove but it sure brought back some memories!

Could be... I've fished a lot of Florida lakes, but Big Water is one I never tried. Loads 'o crocks in it. You almost need an offshore boat to get across it! But for my money, East Lake Tohopekaliga has them all beat.

I never have been much of a fresh water fisherman, last time I was over to the big pond I seen party barges with 200-300 cane poles hanging off them.
I heard at one point the lake was getting fished out?
I'm on the coast so I when I do go I head for the Indian River or beach and fish for real fish, but nowadays most of them have a size slot and mine always seem to fit into the wrong slot. (although things may be totally different now as I haven't been in years)
Did you ever wonder why the people who have a boat always cast towards the shore and the people who don't have a boat always cast out into the water?
Terry

Haa! Never thought of it but you're right!

It's hard to imagine Okeechobee getting fished out, but like a lot of things that gets abused, I suppose it's possible. I lived relatively near to Lake Apopka, and it was dead due to farming and residential runoff. Only fish you'd see were gizzard shad. And if you read about their diet and feeding habits you'll understand why. They say in places the muck/sludge on the bottom was 30 feet thick- that'll feed a LOT of shad!

No I had one day I didn't have my trailer so I took off my 4 wheelee to my hunting camp down bike trails and everything else that's a lake that's located out by my money camp off of Maytown road by 95 in Edgewater Florida. I spend more time in the woods than I like to spend in cities I've just always been that way I don't do people very well kind of a anti social person Display how I'll talk your ear off. I take a lot of amazing pictures of nature particularly. I'm still a man that isn't sucked into the sickness of man's world Press the flock and stick with rest of the sheep I just wear the wool. I never forget that we are just animals Maytown is a long country road from logging but I practice my timing with the signs. It's really stupid but fun

Hey guys where could I find a good store that has various strength magnets like is there a mainbrand store that I could look for her privatized mama pop place or just disassemble a 100 things with magnets and then figure out the strengths? I want to line my shot tube from abutment as far as the AT travels to create as much back pressure as possible.

See funny thing on that is I have swell magnets in my spare parts been that are stronger than some of the bigger magnets I think it's the density Of the magnet that matters and how much it was charged in the process of be made if it's a man made magnet but thank you I will take a look at it Another thing I've noticed When I cut apart a round magnet from a telescopic tool that as you put the pieces just within the magnetic field they gained strength like chaining something together. I tapped them down as I did it I'd show a pice but toke the experiment apart and didn't take any pics of it. Cobalt lead me on to using them by putting them on the abutment itself but I feel it would be strong at first but once out of original field it's back pressure created would stay the same which is why I want to run them in parallel with shot tube. Me using magazine shot tubes I have to secure magnets for reloading the tube. Has anyone here tried it? I will be trying it anyway but would like to hear anyone else's results

Wolf- The site Terry linked you to is an excellent source. Rare earth magnets are what you want. FWIW, cobalt magnets are what we used in super intense slotcar motors, these motors make ridiculous power for their size. The motor below is a Group 7, aka "open class" motor. It was assembled from Koford components. Retail cost was around $150.00 in 1990 dollars. Probably twice that today. The spoiler and wings create enough downforce at speed that the car would easily run upside down. Not much to look at, especially after being raced...

Koford Open Motor.jpg
GP_7_SLOT_CAR 2views.jpg

Anyway, hinz57 did some experimentation using rare earth magnets to hold BBs in place in modified 499B abutments. It was shown that the stronger the magnet, the more power was made. The increase wasn't profound, but it was there. I played with the idea of using rare earth magnets to create "hopup" in a BB gun. The results were inconclusive, mainly because of a lack of time to thoroughly research it. I still believe there could be benefits to it.

Be aware that magnets will attract any ferrous metal particles that may be around, and this could conceivably cause a jam or feeding issues so regular inspection and cleaning would be a good idea..
