I hope this is the right place to post this but has anyone ever had a problem with these going off when you were carrying? In running around shopping with the wife the other day i'm pretty sure i set them off in about 3 different stores.

For some background i was carring my xd45c IWB. the first store we walked out the door with some other people so i didn't think anything about it even though none of the people walking out had bought anything. 2nd store went off when we walked in alone and when we walked out alone without a purchase. 3rd store didn't have a scan on the way on, but went off when we walked out again alone and without a purchase. this didn't happen in every store but i felt pretty confident it was me.

we just kept walking and no one even stopped us. i was just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience or what to do if questioned.

Not metal detectors.

They alarm to RFID gizmos, and you have one on you. See if you can figure out what is doing it.

Might be buried in a wallet or shoe, or something.

In some states a merchant can legally hold you if they think that you have shoplifted something. They can make you wait while they call the police. This is called "Shopkeepers Privilige."

I would have my license to carry ready if this happens. :)

Next time you go through and set it off, wait for it to stop ringing, then stick each foot through. It's probably your shoes. Also, check thoroughly through your wallet. Sometimes they plant one deep into a pocket on the wallet (you wouldn't believe how many wallets we lose to theft despite this.)
Other places include name-brand jeans (check the fifth pocket also), Mechanics brand gloves (that little tear-off tag) and expensive jackets (though these usually get a very visible "gator" tag).

Never had one go off on me, I'm pretty sure these are only RFID detectors.

lol, if your really worried just watch some Die Hard 2 and get yourself a Glock 7.

Even if they were metal detectors, which we all know they are not, who cares? Unless you are carrying a firearm illegally (are you a felon or do you not have a concealed weapon permit?) the law says you have to carry concealed, not completely and totally undetectable.

i don't think it was an RFID tag. i had the same clothes and the same stuff in my wallet that i have every day and its never happened before. of course it hasn't happened since then while carrying either. but i haven't been back to the places it happened.

My cell phone has set them off before. I held my phone in my hand and poked it between the detectors and it set the alarm off.
I wouldn't worry too much about it.

yeah that was kinda the conclusion i was arriving at. go back and try it with and without a few things. we'll see.

My fiance's cell phone always used to set them off on the way INTO the stores never on the way out. We got some strange looks from people working there when we walked in and the alarms went off. I know from experience that Old Navy brand clothes have one of the RFID tags sewn into them somewhere. I aways make sure I look for them because I swear they hide them them just so I get hassled when the alarm goes off as I'm walking out of Wally World.

When I worked retail a few years back I had a customer come in and set off the detector. Since he was coming in, I just nodded and said hello. When he checked out he mentioned it had been happening a lot lately. The only thing he could think of was his hunting/fishing license he had just gotten a few days before, so we tried it at the door and sure enough the alarm went off. I ran it across the scanner for him and no more alarms...:)
