I just bought the pistol today and am happy with how it looks and feels

but as you all know we as gun owners like to take tem apart and look them over and clean some of the grease out of them.

My question is what is the proper way to dissassemble the slide from the frame

All it says in the manual is pull mag and then pull the slide back about an 1/8"
then pull down on the cross bar that is like the glock setup and then it says push the slide forward and off......well this is where the problem comes into play

I have to pull the trigger to get it to come apart, so is this what has tobe done even though the manual doesn't mention this

Thanks for looking and the help

its been so long since i had a glock i can't remember if the trigger has tobe pulled to get the slide off or not

The one thing that doesn't seem to be mentioned in the manual is that you need to pull the trigger before you try to take off the slide. I take down my 709 like this:

  • Check to make sure the gun is empty
  • Put a snap cap into the magazine, put the magazine in the gun, pull the trigger
  • Drop the magazine
  • Pull the slide back about 1/8", push down both sides of the take down button
  • Holding down the take down button, push the slide forward till it disengages

The snap cap may be a bit of overkill, but it reduces my concern about dry firing my 709. The key to getting the slide off is pulling the trigger first - just make sure there's nothing more than a snap cap in the chamber!!

Just pull the trigger and keep the hold down buttons all the way down..... it gets easy with practice...... I never liked the Glock take down method.... I wish Taurus wouldn't have copied it...... but other then that, congratulations you have a great little pistol..... I love mine.......

+1...er, +2 on pulling the trigger. In addition to the above advice, I noticed two other things:

1. I knew I had the slide free to come off if (after pulling the trigger, shifting the slide back a little, and pulling down on both disassembly levers) I could just push the slide a bit forward past the normal stopping point.

2. I had to forcibly pull back on the grip while simultaneously pushing forward on the slide...it then sort of "pops" off. Watch your hands/fingers as the rails might catch you and scuff you up a little. Mine definitely doesn't come apart as easily as my G19.

Good luck...
