Back in 2004 or so, Kahr issued a recall for PM9 barrels in pistols within a certain SN range. Can anyone describe exactly what the "peening" problem was? And what issues it caused for the user?

Thank you, Bill

Bill--
The forward edge of the ejection port and the forward edge of the barrel hood would wear each other. The result was a failure to return fully to battery.

My PM9 suffered from this shortly after I bought it. I called Kahr and talked to Dottie. She confirmed that mine was in the affected S/N range. I sent in the "top half" (barrel, complete slide and recoil spring assembly).

Kahr replaced all of the above within about a week. It has worked perfectly ever since. I carried it for a bit over three years, and still own it. I've been carrying it's big brother (P45) ever since.
Best, Rich

Thanks Orionengnr

The PM9 I am looking at is in the recall range and has some accelerated wear visible on the "top" of the exposed barrel hood when in battery. Similiar to wear I once saw on a Colt 1911 Govt Model that had a wear problem on the top of the barrel hood caused by improper mating or lockup with the barrel recessed lug cuts in the top of the slide.

Is this a fair comparison of the problem?

Regards, Bill

Rich,

How long did it take for the issue to arise?

I'd like to know what to look out for on a CW9 I'm thinking of buying.

Thanks

Neither the CW line, or any other line for that matter, have reported any peening problem since the original one a few years ago.

Thanks for that, my brother.
