yes,ive got a question about the rem pump action rifles, can the gun handle full powered loads in reloading manuals without warping the action shut? i am thinking about a 243 type rifle for deer hunting because its a fast rifle being a pump.however can the pump action HANDLE the top loads in the reloading manual though? im not really concerned about "moa" accuracy with the gun because in wooded areas it dont matter.any responses will be appreciated. :D

The Remington 760-series is as capable of handling SAAMI spec loads in any of its chamberings as any BA. As long as you're willing to follow the same rules for safe reloading practices and load development you aren't likely to get into any trouble.

You will have to FL resize your cases, and may benefit from one of the "small base" die sets sometimes recommended for semi-auto and pump action rifles. The issue here doesn't concern action strength, but the differences in primary extraction capability relative to some BAs.

If your definition of "full power" means regarding the maximum loads listed in the manuals as anything less than Gospel, you might want to stick with factory ammo. The vast majority of the folks that I've ever run across who've managed to "warp" or otherwise ruin a quality firearm of any type have been those who thought that they knew better than those engineers and ignored the published data.

If you want "magnum" performance, buy a magnum. If you just want a slick handling weapon for uses within the performance envelope of the .243 cartridge, your 7600 will do just dandy.

It's a strong action... that doesn't mean you should exceed saami specs in any way shape or form... however the neat thing about a pump gun if you have a stuck case you CAN tap the butt on the ground holding onto the slide.

If you use the same brass for YOUR RIFLE ONLY you can get away with neck sizing your brass in many cases.

yes, thanks for your responses :D ,and yes i was refering ONLY to published data inside of reloading manuals and using the top loads per bullet section.yes,i know that alot of people like to "hot rod" their loads but i wouldnt.so long as the rifle can handle the top load then i think that it probably would be a sweet little gun for deer.i know one thing for sure is that at gun shows the 243 win rifles dont last very long according to the dealers that sell them because they say that everyone wants one for their "first" rifle for their kids because they dont kick much.thanks for the replies. ;)

No offence intended, Pioneer but planning to jump right to the top of the listed loads in any manual is asking for trouble. Those loads were developed using a specific set of components in a specific firearm or test fixture.

Assuming that any of them will still be safe to fire in any other rifle, even when the exact same components are used, is not a good practice. Even something as small as using a bullet of the same weight, but different manufacture, or a different brand of primer can be enough to buy you a trip to the gunsmith, if not the Emergency Room.

I would advise you in the strongest possible terms to approach the maximum loads listed in any manual gradually, and with the utmost caution. Starting load development over again with any component change may be tedious, but so is learning to read Braille.

Instead of looking for the absolute top velocity, might I suggest that you start with the recommended "starting" loads and work toward finding the most accurate combos in your rifle? These will most often be found somewhere in the middle, and will add a good deal to the service life of your rifle.

Thats sort of heading away from what that rifle does well anyway. If you benchrest it you might be surprised at how really accurate, not to mention quick handling, they are. Add in the sweet, light recoil from a .243 and you've got a sweetheart rifle. If you want more rifle BUY IT. You can afford two.
