How much do you want to spend?
I've shot a lot of critters in my back yard. I've spoken to both neighboring adults and kids to get their thoughts on the noise I make as I perform this task. I shoot from inside my laundry room with roughly 10 inches of barrel out the window.
The break barrel guns are loud (Benjamin NP1, NP2, Crossman TR77). Everyone can hear them. When I shoot out of the back 1st floor window, kids on the front porch of my 2 story house say that when I shoot it sounds like someone dropping a metal rake. If I shoot at one squirrel, every other squirrel in the area runs away.
Sorry, quality BREAK BARRELS ARE NOT LOUD!
Yes, break barrels especially the Big Box Store Crosmans etc. are loud. Good quality Air Rifles are so nicely tuned they have very little noise. I understand that you might not have the budget but as you move up or stay in the hobby, you will eventually get one. I own some very nicely custom tuned English and German Airguns. However once again the Walther LGV is extremely quiet right out of the box. You neighbor will not hear this gun. As you can see from this review it is about 78 DB which is amazingly quiet. I have done much testing of DB rating over the years with Airguns. Nothing real scientific, but with meters and recording.
If you can ever get to the point that you can afford a Walther, buy it. The quality of metal, the tolerances, are noticed right away even from a armature. When it locks up the barrel, it is SOLID as a bank vault. Here is yet another review. One quote you hear many times from air gun enthusiast is "This is the finest gun I have shot"
