Title pretty much says it all. What do you use for a range bag and what all do you keep in it? Just trying to look for ideas here since my current range bag is an old backpack which hauls pistols and eye and ear protection.

i have an old tough duffel bag. in the main compartment i have targets, my ruger mk2, and boxes of .22lr and 45acp ammo. also some rags. left compartment holds stapler, staples, muffs, and screwdriver set. right compartment holds solvents, oils, brushes, q-tips, and patches.
front compartment holds cleaning rods and bore snakes.
its freaking heavy! about the only time i'll take a lighter load is if i'm doing .22lr only. then i only need ammo and the guns.

I use to use a laptop computer bag. Many pockets and pouches both inside and out. Will hold much ammo, cleaning stuff and two or three handguns all at once.

Got mine for free. My mother in law got it from a customer. She gave it to me.

Here's a secret - I've seen gun sites and mags advertise exactly the same thing for prices running from $49 to $239.

You can buy one from Walmart for $24 the last time I looked.

Now what I use is a modular tool chest. Bought it at Walmart for $39. Made of sturdy plastic. Top section has a tray and a large area below tray. Below that is a lazy susan like deal with many pockets. Below that is a section that's just a large open space. The top section has both a standard carry handle and the tote type handle found on luggage that works with the wheels on the bottom. Works great for IPSC, CAS and just general range use.

I can load up 3 pistols in the bottom section, 2 more in the top along with paper targets, cleaning stuff, tools and 4 or 5 hundred rounds of ammo easily.

Two bag system works for me

I have a BucketBox brand GateMouth Jr. that I keep my Mags/Gloves/Ear Protection/Lub./Andsome small tools. I have another two sided travel type bag that I have all my Range trip Ammo. on one side and my firearms on the other{This bag weighs about 40#.}. This system has worked very well for me. :)

I use one of those fake mil-surp large mechanics bags.
Costs $14 and will hold up to 5 guns in rugs, 12 mags in their own little pockets, outer pockets for tools and cleaning supplies, about 4 extra boxes of ammo, with room left over for muffs, glasses and after session Snicker bars and Mountain Dew

3/4 Ton Chevy Van.

Rubbermaid container #1 holds rest, bags, and assorted bench paraphenalia. It sits in a folding cart, which also holds a shooting stool.

Rubbermaid container #2 holds powder, cases and bullets, along with the press and whatever other heavy crap I don't wanna put in...

Plano Tacklebox #1 - about $3-4K worth of specialized tools, a brick of primers, etc.

Rubbermaid Container #3 holds wind flags, etc.

Rubbermaid Container #4 holds a spare scope, trigger, etc.

Rubbermaid Container #5 holds tent and tarp stuff for putting up the big canopy.

There's also a few other things, but I'm not going to go into 'em.

I use the MTM Sportsmen's Utility Case (see here and scroll down). It holds all my usual range gear: hearing protection, eye protection, stapler, targets, timer, hat, shooting gloves, screwdriver kit, etc. In a second SUC, I load up the (hand)guns and ammo for that day's session, along with anything out-of-the-ordinary I plan to use that day.

Inexpensive toolbox. It contains:

  • Ears (electronic headphones and earplugs)
  • Eyes (clip-ons)
  • Molon Labe hat
  • Targets (usually slow-fire pistol and half-size Q targets)
  • Stapler and extra staples
  • Whatever ammo I'm going to shoot that day
  • Target pasters (orange dots & Shoot & See)
  • Screwdrivers to adjust my Ruger MKII sights
  • Minor doodads (hex keys, Torx wrenches, ...)
  • Bent .22 brush to clean chambers
  • Spare N batteries for the earphones
  • Octant chart, showing what's theoretically going on for missed targets
  • Patchworm and .22 patches
  • Any shells that ejected into the box...

I was at the local Target store one day last year and they were having a sale on overnight travel bags. I found one for $12 that had a fairly deep and wide compartment with zipper expandable side pockets and a nice front compartment. The lid on the main compartment had an inside zipper pocket. I can get 3 handguns with their rugs and have room left for earmuffs and gloves. The side pockets hold ammo and mags, and the front pocket holds some tools and a roll of masking tape and a hand stapler.

I also have a $9 plastic toolbox I found at Home Depot that works great for cleaning supplies and tools and I can even fit a spotting scope with a benchtop tripod in it. I keep targets in a large plastic shopping bag.

Old "complimentary" physical therapy bag...
2 Pockets on each end, one main compartment...

Several smaller compartments via faux walls comprised of stacked ammo boxes...

Works for me.

(Helpful hint : NEVER use an old, emptied out range bag as a carry-on for vacation!)

I've been trying to minimize the amount of gear I take to the range - otherwise I end up taking everything I think I *might* need - so I've started using a small GI tool bag that I found at a gun show for $10. It holds enough ammo for an IDPA match (and then some), gun, mags, and eye & ear protection, plus a pen & notepad, some spare parts; and the 1911 universal takedown tool: an AR firing pin ;) (thanks Tuner!).

For longer days at the range when I know I'll be shooting multiple guns, I've got one of the *large* range bags from cheaper than dirt. Works great, but dang does it get heavy! :)

Been the route;

A fake wooden "Winchester" shooting box to a plastic tool box w/tray to a large gym bag to a shooting bag I never even used. I got tired of either NOT having what I needed handy or wearing a groove in my shoulder from carrying it around (and STILL not having something).

I now have a Stanley rolling box. Two wheels in back, a collapsing handle in front, two stacking trays w/compartments and a deep well. Tools, targets, ammo, muffs, plugs, glasses, rags; even a handgun or two. I also have a hard, high surface to sit/work on now.

It rolls pretty easily from stage to stage and will still lift easily into the trunk. "It's a good thing." :D

For my black powder/muzzleloader shooting I have a "designer bag". No, really. Several years ago my mom gave me a set of Jordache soft luggage which someone had given her and she had no use for. The largest bag is just the right size for all my black powder cleaning and loading supplies. I keep everything (except powder) stored in it and when I go to the range all I have to do is grab the bag, rifle/pistol, and powder and am set to go. :)

I use 1 of those Home Depot orange tool boxes ($5.00). In it is ammo, ear protection, cleaning supplies, safety glasses, a few tools, extra mags, etc....

My favorite range bag is my mother-in-law, she can carry quite a bit of gear. If I could only find a way to make her leave her mouth at home... :neener:

Apparently I am the first one here using a 'real' range bag! :)

I have a Medium sized Bagmaster range bag, which holds two pistols in the side pockets in the rugs, and the middle compartment(s) holds ammo, mags, shooting glasses, gloves, tools, mag loaders, clothespins, electrical tape, ear muffs.

I also use a mini-range bag, also by Bagmaster, to carry two more pistols, and it has 8 mag pouches and an external panel to hold even more.

Then, I have a plastic foam lined case that can carry many pistols, 8 easy.

And I have a couple rifle cases.

I have a bag from Wal-Mart , my wife grabbed it up for me after she saw how I was packing up for my first THR shoot. It came with 2 little rugs , but I don't use it so much for guns as ammo , ears , extra AAA batteries for ears and 2032's for Red Dots, switch tip screwdriver with bits , foldable allen wrench set a stapler and staples a few folded targets and a few extra mags. Damn it's heavy ! Ray

I keep my gun in a locked briefcase thingy I paid too much for, and my cleaning stuff goes in it's own little pouch. Ammo gets carried in a 30 cal tin, and everything else goes in my pockets.

I think I'll go pick up a duffel bag in the future, but for now it works.

Range Bag

Maybe I am too cheap right now, I went all out for this. It is a baby diaper bag. It has many pockets and you can also find them in many colors for those of being picky

I use a blue Beretta range bag I bought from Skunkabilly for $35. Best deal I ever made!

Holds 10-12 pistols in rugs, plus all the ammo I need, some Shoot-n-See adhesive targets for patching up the paper ones I buy at the range, and a loop for my Pro-Ears.

I don't clean guns at the range, so I don't take any of that ancillary cra....uh....stuff.

Hey Skunk---Thanks for the bag!!

I have a WWII musette bag that I use. It'll hold my eyes & ears, binoculars (in lieu of a spotting scope), ammo, targets, scrounged brass, a small blanket to shoot from, and a pistol (if I really cram it full). That's all I usually need.

I also use a Bagmaster 'mini'.

In the winter I practice indoors at a range near work with plenty of targets (for very little mark-up) and all the tools I would ever need, so I travel light. Just the range bag loaded up with full mags and a couple of boxes of ammo. I can get in and out in 60 minutes on my lunch hour :)

Summertime, it's outdoors at the range near home and I have to pack a little heavier. Add targets, basic tools, more ammo, snacks and drinks, because I'm hanging around for a while...
