Rifle is a Remington 740 30'06 with a Pachmayr tip-off mount and leupold 1.5-5x20 Vari X III. I just fired two 3 round groups. The first one was way to the left and not shown. After adjusting the windage, i took 3 more shots. Second group measured 1 inch at 50 yds. I am very confidant that it will do better, i just need to catch up with it, and learn its trigger. Not too shabby for the first 30'06 rifle i've ever owned:what: . I am amazed how much the action tames the '06's recoil. Even with a steel buttplate, it feels a lot like my sks. Now im just curious to see if the scope mount can hold that zero. I origionally baught this rifle to re-sell, but now im having a hard time parting with it. I cant explain it, but it just feels so good in my hands. I dont really like the scope however, as it is a little too eye-relief sensitive for my liking. Now the hard part. Sell or keep. :banghead:

Could it be that the scope is not mounted to 'fit' you? How much room is there to move it forward or backward in the rings, to see if that improves the eye relief sensitivity?

If it doesn't work out for you and you do like the rifle, you can probably recoup most of what you spent selling the scope... you got a deal either way, and if the rifle will shoot for you them it's worth thinking about.

How much eye relief do you need? Leopould is known for offering a generous ammout of relief in their products compared to others, and the VXIII should give plenty. I think the other poster has it, the scopes position needs to be adjusted.

The scope's eye relief is fine in distance. It is just far too sensitive to fore and aft movement and side to side. The slightest movement causes my sight picture to go black. However, i will say that i have this problem with many scopes, including my Ziess Diavari C. My Pentax Whiteails Unlimited is far more forgiving in the eye posistion dept. I do believe i'll sell the scope, and keep the rifle. At the price i got it for, the scope alone will pay for the gun. I will probably end up installing a Burris, and since i dont have one, this will give me an excuse to buy one.;) Funny side note. I have yet to have a Leupold scope that i liked. Yes, i know that's odd and strange, but it's the truth.
