Dang, I guess I am not that much of a Trekkie as I thought.

Only thing that matters is after 25 years of marriage, I was able to convince my wife to be a Trekkie and now after 29 years, she is hooked.

My favorite line from Captain Janeway, "Damn the prime directive!" as I guess the directive doesn't apply to advanced post-warp civilization like the Federation and bringing back advanced technology from the future doesn't violate the temporal directive either because it was "destiny" for the Federation to mingle with all quadrants of the galaxy.

No, but you would need a nickel based wire or one made just for cast iron. There are also different types cast iron but lots of carbon and in general heat sensitive as well as being brittle has me favor TIG welding with Silicon Bronze filler.

It can be a tricky material and cracks can go a long way or continue to grow very easily. Personally I would replace it unless it was something that was irreplaceable.

I grew up on a dairy farm and my dad was a dairy farmer and so was I for 10years. On my dad’s farm we had a very nice shop we had a gear box go to hell on a forage harvester where a gear broke at high speed it broke off a big piece of the cast iron gear box. The dealer told us it couldn’t be fixed but my dad and I thought different I was a excellent arc welder and a friend of his worked in a foundry he gave my dad some stainless steel arc welding rod and said you can weld it back together we put the piece on the gearbox and with a grinder put a slight groove in it all the way around where it broke then I welded it back together we used that harvester for another 5 years until it wore out. I would think this would fix the issue on a press
