RCBS UNIFLOW aggrivation-any ideas?

I have a Uniflow Powder Measure and have always found that it is a lot more accurate when you use the case activated linkage system and a baffle inside the measure.

I use the Hornady Lock n Load Bushings, a baffle inside the measure and the case activated linkage. I mount the Uniflow to my Rock Chucker and use that to charge rifle rounds.

When I'm done and want to empty the measure, 1/4 turn is all that is necessary to remove the Uniflow from the press, then I take off the top and dump the powder back into the Powder Jar through a cheap funnel I purchased from an automotive store. I have found that this combination gives me the most accurate and consistent throws and eliminates powder spillage and makes clean up a breeze...problem solved.

Hope this helps...

John3921- Yes my stand came tapped with 1 1/4"-12 just like my die sets.
The bushing is supposed to screw into the stand, then I take the powder measure and screw it into one of the 3 L-N-L adapters which give me the "quick release" that I'm looking for.
My only worry is the length of the drop tube. I need lots of drop tube for my 9mm cases,
The mailman did not bring my bushings Saturday as advertised. They left Grand Rapids (100 miles south of me) on Friday night. Snail mail holiday???? I should post pictures tomorrow night of my quick release measure, else a notice that I have bushings for sale.
I shoudda' talked to youse guys sooner. The High Road crowd is smarter than a lot of factory engineers.

Try Woodcraft for clamps - they sell all kinds and sizes. They have storefronts and online.

Hmm - standard dies are 7/8 x 14 threads. Some presses, my old Lyman Orange Crusher for example, were tapped to 1-1/4 x 12, but came with a 1-1/4 x 12 to 7/8 x 14 adaptor for standard dies. I believe the 1-1/4 x 12 threading was for special die sets (shotgun maybe?)

I use the LNL bushings on my LNL AP. I like the system, hope it works for you.

Crash and Burn on the Hornady conversion bushing set. The conversion bushing with the male threads will not screw into the powder STAND. The threads are like 1 1/2" and the stand is 1 1/4-12 female.. It would work if screwed into my Rock Chucker with factory bushing removed or my Lee Classic Cast press as is, but in either case no loading block would fit under the press if it was used as a powder stand. Waste of $15 so far.
I'll have to fall back on my toggle clamp idea.
I will use the LNL kit with the Lee press for small calibers and 50 BMG, and the RCBS for my large reloading tasks like 9mm and 38/357.

Check er' out! The clamps arrived about an hour ago. Voila'.......the little buggers are a lot smaller than I was led to believe, but the measure is super securely attached now and a joy to unload at the end of a loading session.

One bigger clamp would be sufficent, but you run what you brung!

Simple Solution

I had no idea that this was such a big problem for people! Guess I just got lucky that my original RCBS Du-O-Measure from back int he 70s came with this nifty bracket (would be totally simple to make from bar stock too).

Powder Measure (3) (Medium).jpg

I never mount my powder measure on an external stand - I think the little extra vibration it gets from using the press aids in getting uniform charges. I simply pull the expanded shell out of the holder and briefly pause it under the powder measure before setting it in the reloading block. Mounting the measure this way leaves the charge handle perfectly positioned for my fingers when the press handle is at the top - here it is in action:

The beauty of this bracket is that you only have to grab the die and turn it less than 1/4 turn to slip the powder measure out and dump it. Of course, if you still want to use an external stand, all you would need is to mount it with a spare die the same way.

Just get the uniflow to QC conversion kit and be done with it... If that kit is no longer around, look for the drum and tubes then. Talk to RCBS, they gotta still have them. I thought they were about $37 and had a large, small, and drain tube + the QC rotary drum...

OR you could just get the case activated linkage setup and not hook it up, but use the extended nipple on the bottom to just lift your uniflow out instead of unscrewing it...

Thank you ladies and gents for all your great ideas. My finished product is mounted where I want it and a snap or two away from an unload to the powder can.
I have fumed :cuss: at this problem for 25-30 years before spending a few bucks to fix it. I'll have to grow another joint in my leg so I can kick myself for taking too much time with it.
